Indoor Pool coming
According to the online tabloid.......
In a surprise announcement, District Manager Janet Tutt told the audience that she had been notified by The Villages that they are intending to build an indoor pool. Many Villagers who have fought skin cancer and other ailments have called for an indoor pool, but the AAC has been stonewalled by residents who don’t want “their pool” converted to a shaded or covered pool. “We do not have additional details at this time,” Tutt said. “In light of this discussion, they wanted to make sure we were aware of it.” Usual complainers, start your engines. :pepper2::pepper2::pepper2: |
At Village of Fenney?

I hope this is a fee facility much like the fitness centers or the wood working shop. To me there are a lot more cost opereating an indoor pool vs. an outdoor pool.

Is this to be an indoor pool or a covered pool?

Works for me. I'd be happy to pay, but one pool for the entire Villages? There are a LOT of folks who want to avoid the sun. |

Doing so for an indoor pool could actually make it cheaper to operate than the outdoor pools where, in winter, much of the heat in the water escapes overnight. |
I read there was a higher risk of lung issues with indoor pools, and was greater risk for older people.

Awesome. SEVEN replies so far and NOT ONE that says, "Great, this is what we have been wanting."
Holy ****, where's the Tylenol? |

I'm not a big swimmer, however, I believe an indoor pool would be a great addition to The Villages. Many other retirement communities have them.
|
I'd love it. I hope it's centrally located--near my house. :BigApplause:
|
I am glad to hear about this happening. There are many who have sincerely wanted an indoor pool, especially the serious swimmers who swim during the cold months. I am sure it will be done well, as most things are around here.
I do understand Jayhawk why you need some Tylenol. Sometimes my head hurts with so much negativity. Here are some pictures of truly luxurious indoor pools, for you to look at; luxury indoor pools - Bing images |

There are fewer health risks to our population than being senior citizens. [emoji41] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Please don't take my original post as negative. If there are sufficient users to support an indoor pool that is great. It is just something that does not appeal to me. I just think this should be a user fee based facility. Even if the fees just cover the variable operating cost.
|
Thanks!
I'm so happy! I love to swim, even when it's too cold outside! The developers are so kind to provide excellent facilities for us!
|
When I moved to The Villages in 2014, I was very disappointed to find out that we did not have any covered or indoor pools. I have skin cancer and cannot be in the sun - I pray this happens!!!
|
for everybody that hopes it'll be near their house . . . . "how close are you to the Rio Grande area they are talking about?"
and I can see a use for a indoor pool but it should be fee based and just a pool - not to include a deck with chairs to read kindles and books. That can be done indoors at home! |
What a beautiful thing. Just saying the other day that someone tried to sway us to another development because they have an indoor pool. Well, well our friend who went to the other place was already ready to come to TV, this should do the trick. The other community is boring. Sound's like our grandchildren. I'm grateful for an indoor pool.

I can already hear the clamor of discontent when people hear it's potentially planned for a north/eastern location! I wonder if The Villages has a budget for 20 indoor pools? |
Indoor pool is a much needed addition to TV and I would be happy to pay a fee to use it for combo and lap swimming.
|
While an indoor pool isn't something I personally would use, I can certainly see why some might prefer one (skin cancer survivors for example).
Good for The Developer for admitting (even obtusely) everything is not 'perfect' and is willing to admit a mistake in not providing one before now. |

Before buying a house in TV, my wife and I toured several other communities in Florida. A number of them had "sails" over parts of the seating areas around the pools, which they said were to help folks avoid overexposure from the sun. It seemed like a good idea (I've got a family history of skin cancer) and we were surprised not to see it implemented at any of the pools we saw in TV. We also wondered why there were no indoor pools, though given the population size of TV, I have no idea how many indoor or seasonally covered pools would be enough to satisfy the need. Well, it's good to see that this is at least being tried. Maybe it'll be the start of a big trend. Or not. We'll see.

Maybe the Developer will install some more shade at MY neighborhood pool or heck maybe they will just put a shaded pool in MY back yard to make me happy ! LOL
|
:2excited:ok, ok, ok! I just read the thread! I was going to write exactly that....hurray for The Villages. I would even be happy to have solar shades over a few of the pools, that would be quite cost effective, but an indoor pool is better in the winter because of the cold. Us old people don't like cold!
|
I have a friend who lives backing up to the field behind the Rio Grande pool and that is where the indoor pool is planned along with a new golf course.
|
Saw them too

Swimming is great exercise. As one who has skin cancer issues, I swim a bit and then head for the shade. Actually, I welcome a cloudy day so I have the opportunity to swim a bit more. ( if I'm not playing golf). We adapt, adjust and deviate to do those things we want to do. As stated before I'm not a big swimmer, so though I welcome an indoor pool, I will not likely use it that much---especially if I have to pay for it! Maybe the "scotch" heritage! |

It's great we are getting an indoor pool.
|
An indoor pool should make a lot of residents happy - it's often been requested! I think The Developer does react to written comments on the annual Survey, provided there are enough comments requesting the same improvement.
|
Indoor Pool coming
An indoor pool needs specialized HVAC equipment to maintain air temperature and humidity to specific parameters. If not the building enclosing the pool will be subject to rot and oxidation on metal including the electrical system. Very expensive to run and maintain. One pool in a development this size won't matter much. Wondering who's gonna pick up the tab.

I intend to e-mail Jane Tutt and voice my compliments for providing this opportunity but also that I hope its with someone else's money and not mine. I already pay for amenities I don't use or want |

Maybe residents north of CR 466 will share the cost of an indoor pool, since it's being discussed for the Rio Grande area. And since residents south of CR 466 are being saddled with repairs to land under Sumter bridge. Just kidding .... Sort of. |

I do not have a lot of experience visiting the pools, but the Summerhill pool has the cloth shades mentioned in other post. The El Santiago pool has two gazebos were one can sit or lounge out of the sun.
I don't know who owns the land, but the vacant field that is next to "shady lane" would be a great place for an indoor pool. It is somewhat centrally located. More so than the other possible locations mentioned. |

I agree. I'd love to have the use of an indoor pool and would willingly pay a special fee. However, now that I know where it will be, forget about it. I swim daily and wouldn't want to waste close to an hour in the car traveling to and fro. I know I'll get slammed for this but it's my opinion. I am happy, though, for those swimmers up North who are getting it. I think it's great and probably worth the cost to them. Nonswimmers may feel differently. Remember, this is essentially the same area where, when it was suggested a roof of sorts be put over Hacienda pool, a giant stink was made by the locals, if I recall correctly. OTOH, maybe this is an experiment and, if successful, indoor pools will spring up throughout TV like golf courses to serve the 100,000+ population. YES!! |
As I said in an earlier thread on spending money to maintain the softball facilities:
"There are really only two ways to run a community like ours. Either we "pay to play" or we accept that we ALL contribute towards maintaining ALL of the facilities, whether we use them or not. I do not play softball, but I am delighted that those facilities are being well-maintained so that they can be fully-enjoyed" So I really don't understand why those who won't use an indoor pool are reluctant to help pay for it. We are a community here, so we must expect to pay communal expenses. |
