Gas Station Lines Today
So the pipeline was hacked, and guess it has started the hunt for gas before the prices go up.
So going to Disney tomorrow, tank at 1/4. Sams, had 6-7 cars per pump. Every station had line’s of cars waiting to get in. I traveled down to WaWa’s, hoping less of a line. Each car only took less than 5-10 minutes. Lawn guys were the only ones getting more than 5 gallons of gas. Who sits in a line for 15 minutes for a few gallons of gas. It’s the TP mentality all over again. |

15 minutes ago I filled up at Chevron. No one but me was at the pumps. Across the street Circle K had their pumps on and no one was waiting there either. |
There's always a line for gas at Sam's Club...
|
The pipeline affected doesn't go through Florida.
|
The gas station at the corner of Griffin Rd. and 441 (next to the Lady Lake Post Office) had all pumps shut off with "out of order" bags on the nozzles. But the last time I went there, last week, a guy came out and said power was down on the whole block. Now I'm wondering if the two situations are related. I had no trouble getting gas at Wawa up the road across from the hospital, and the price was the same as it has been all last week.

Got gas this morning at Circle K on 466A near Lowe’s, no line. Marathon and 7/11 down street didn’t have lines either.
|
I was at the CircleK/Shell station on the corner of Belle Cruz and 441 at noon. All the pumps were bagged. Went to the CircleK/Shell on 466 and Southern Trace around 1:00 pm. Busy but it looked like all the pumps were open except one.
This is crazy! Florida is not supplied by this pipeline. It will make it worse that DeSantis declared a State of Emergency for gas. This will really drive the crazies out. Glad I could fill up when I did. Yes, I needed gas today. The car was showing 36 miles to empty when I pulled in. |
Tesla! Oh yeah baby!
|
Yeah, we're creating our own gasoline "shortage" by panic buying. The pipeline shut down does not affect us. I expect the lines to be short-lived once people realize there is no shortage here.

How things change. |
The pipeline affects all of the southeast, including Florida. That what the maps show.
|
Gas
The pipeline goes from Houston to Jersey (5550 some miles) It supplies refineries along the way and for all the eastern seaboard affecting all southern states supplies. if the tankers can't fill up there be no deliveries be that Florida or anywhere else. There is another pipeline of less significance but that would not cope with demand.

Florida fuel comes from coast. It's all over the news............fake news map. |
Yeah Tesla, until the electric grid goes down also !

Sure if you want to save a nickel you'll always find a line. I went to racetrack and while there were cars there getting gas they were plenty of empty pumps and the price was down seven cents from the day before. If you go to gasbuddy.com they show you locally what people are paying for gas in the last 24 hours. Too many people thinking like retirees and looking to save that last nickel

Then Texas had the refineries closed due to storms

I never let my gas tank get much below half a tank. I’ve done that for almost 50 years. Decades ago, back in the high school days, I filled up the top half of my gas tank. Many fellow students that drove filled up the bottom half of their gas tank, from totally empty, to half full.
The only time I ever ran out of gas was with my first car, which was a piece of junk, a 67 Ford station wagon. It ran out of gas during the test drive, right next to the used car dealer, right in front of a gas station! I remember decades ago, when the price of gasoline was 26 to 28 cents per gallon. Sometimes there were long lines. I’d fill up at the gas station across the street for 30 cents a gallon. Paying a quarter more to fill up wasn’t a big deal decades ago, to avoid the long gas lines. For decades, I fill up when my tank gets down to half full. Very frequently these days, I fill up when I get down below 3/4 full, or about 100 to 150 miles on the gas tank. I always zero the trip odometer when filling up, so I know how many miles have been driven since the last fill up. Last year, during the rioting in the Twin Cities, in Minnesota, I was at the gas station to fill up my half full lawn mower gas can. My car’s gas tank was already nearly full at the time. Another person and I at the gas station discovered that the gas station was closed in the afternoon. There was a sign on the gas station door, that it was closed due to “Social Disorder”, in other words, it was closed due to the threat of rioting. The other person at the gas station had a nearly empty gas tank, and he didn’t know if he had enough gas left to drive to another gas station! In my view, running your gas tank is irresponsible! You need to keep enough gas in your tank for unexpected emergency situations. It’s not that much of a hassle to wait in line at Costco or Sam’s Club for gasoline, especially if you’re retired, when you have plenty of free time in your life. You can always check emails and surf the web on your cellphone while you’re in line. Decades ago, many private pilots ended up running out of gasoline and landed on some of the Twin Cities freeways! This happened multiple times, because the pilots did not maintain enough reserve gas supply in their gas tank. The FAA changed the rules, so if a pilot runs out of fuel, and ends up having to land on a road instead of an airport, they lose their pilot’s license forever. After that rule change, small aircraft no longer landed on the roads because they ran out of gasoline! Maybe you should lose your automobile driver’s license for a year if you run out of gas. Then people would be more responsible. In today’s world, it’s really irresponsible to let your gas tank get too low. There could be a pipeline computer attack, because the pipeline company management is irresponsible, and refuses to spend money on IT security. Or, there could be an unexpected war in the Middle East, or some other unexpected cause for there to be panic, and a “run” on gas stations. It’s much better if you are property prepared for the unexpected, by always maintaining enough reserve supply of gasoline in your tank. |

In Florida we get 90% of our gas from the Gulf coast refineries by Tanker Trucks not the pipeline that was affected.

Electric cars? Guess what supplies the energy for electricity---it's not all electricity. The power needs something to run it and it isn't the windmills neither. Gas and coal are what run things ultimately. Don't fall for the rhetoric that we're running out of gas. I've heard actual experts say there is plenty and the U.S. has enough without relying on other countries.

I topped off my lawn mower gas can so that I can complete the whole lawn mowing job without stopping. I didn’t want to have to drive to the gas station, without completing the mowing. Also, at the time, the rioting went on for over a week in the Twin Cities. The rioting was causing gasoline stations to close, because the gasoline stations were afraid of the arsonists that were part of the rioting. There were also reports of cars with the license plates removed, that were filling up gasoline cans at gas stations in the Twin Cities area. Those were probably the arsonists that were part of the rioting. |

Help ! Now, do we start our planned drive up to Chicago tomorrow (G'daughter graduation), put off starting out until Sunday or cancel altogether ??
Have not seen this family for two years and now this little crisis occurs, amazing timing ! If I was 20 instead of 80 this would, of course, be a no brainer. |
