Too bad. I thought that they should have paved and striped that area to allow golf cart parking.

The parking lot is too small and you might end up parking a very long way away when it gets crowded.

Are they all lazy or do some of them have physical issues that prevent them from walking a long way?

Was the issue only the grass being tore up or was there an additional issue of safety of walkers and carts backing out into passing traffic. It is an multi modal path, correct?

There are Handicapped spaces available in the parking lot.

Really? If they have a physical issue, they can be dropped off pretty close to Sawgrass, the person go park, in a correct area, and then go meet the person they let off.

I’ve been by there many times and everyone I’ve seen has always looked pretty able to walk a further distance.

The grass wasn’t being torn up, it was being destroyed due to the extreme dryness, along with all the safety issues you mentioned.

Now if we can get the entitled that park at the curb in front of the grocery stores….to go park in the lot!

No enforcement needed. They replaced the grass with plants.

Speaking of safety I missed the meeting at the Savannah Rec Center concerning the speeding, unsafe passing, and vehicles that should be licensed using the MMP'S. I could hear the arguments from my house. LOL

An interesting point might be that non-Street MMPs are private property making the use of law enforcement challenging.

Whether one felt they had a legitimate reason to park on the grass or not, that is besides the point. It was forbidden to do so - so those parking there were giving the middle finger and doing it anyway - we need to a people who respect and obey laws/ordinances, etc. If there is something we disagree with, there are ways to voice your concerns rather than flagrantly being disobedient.

That may have been one of the subjects discussed at that meeting. I really believe those that operate their golf cart recklessly speeding and passing on blind curves know if they ever cause an accident they won't be identified unless their cart was disabled by the accident. They'll go about their day.

I drove there tonight - it was Boozy Bingo at Sawgrass, and the place was packed, still I saw plenty of parking spaces, and only half of the golf cart spaces were occupied on the southside of the complex.

They may park on the next section of grass unfortunately. St. Paddy's Day even cars drove and parked across the street on the grass.

Last time that I went to Sawgrass was in late January on a Thursday night with a band that definitely wasn't one of the bigger names. There was a ton of golf carts parked on the "illegal" grass area and there was still zero spots available in the whole parking lot all the way to the front of the Ezell Rec Center. There's just a complete lack of available parking there, and for the handicapped it appears like a tenfold problem. It would be like if Brownwood had 5 handicapped spots in the Square.

I'm not sure what problem that people parking on the grass was creating. It was actually more like a grassroots solution to a problem that the developer never thought about. Seems curious what the benefit is to anyone now that the parking will be even worse there.

No. Lazy. They can add HC spots. But parking there was an eyesore and a safety issue.

Another solution would have been to turn the 'grassy spots' into real parking, which would have helped to alleviate the parking problem.

The people that parked there were just lazy, period! The people that parked there are probably the 1’s that need to do a little walking. Even if you had to park near the pickleball courts, maybe you are talking a 300 feet away from the stage.
How would these same people feel if 50 golf carts would park on their front lawn every night? Since I live nearby, I don’t want to see the grass destroyed from carts parking on the grass

You may want to spend sometime in the VA clinic parking lot to witness the number of disabled Veterans who are able to drive themselves to their appointments either by golf cart or car as their disability does not impair their ability to drive but it does impair their ability to ambulate. Some of these Vets can't even ambulate without the assistance of a cane or walker, and others require wheelchairs and scooters. And unfortunately there are many who are mobility impaired who do not or no longer have a spouse, other family member or a friend who can drive them where they need to go and have no choice but to be as best as they can self reliant. I am sure that some that park on that strip of grass could very easily park in the parking lot and walk to the interior of Sawgrass from there. But don't assume this is the case with everyone who parks on the strip of grass who often remain in their carts to listen to the bands from there because getting inside with the assistance of a cane or walker along with lugging a chair as there is minimal seating inside Sawgrass is difficult if not impossible for them.

I agree with the poster who mentioned that strip of grass should have been instead a paved bank of handicapped golf cart parking spaces.

Funny thing - I never saw any signs that said "No Parking On Grass" - Is this a Golden Rule in TV?
Certainly a safety concern, though. Park and Walk, folks. From what I see every day, many/most living here could use a brisk walk every day or so.

It's about time, Goldwingnut has been complaining about this for a while now.

This is not unlike those who claim that there is a parking problem at SS and SL because they have to walk a bit.

There is no parking problem. We have been there many times and have always found a parking spot. Always.

How sad, what happened to us. We were the rebellious generation, the generation who walked on Washington, walked on Selma, protested on campuses, questioned authority. Now whenever a Karen complains we trip over ourselves to comply. We have become the people we made fun of when we were young. Good Lord, who cares if you park on the fing lawn.

The Planners should have anticipated the problem when designing the area. They had the same cart parking problem at Lake Sumter Landing on the grass area at the northeast corner across from the square. The problem was finally solved by installing wood posts and roping off the area.

The parking lot isn’t too small. People are just lazy.

Most of those lanes are not marked as fire lanes and do not have no parking signs, why is it illegal to park there???

Scooping out the dirt and putting down gravel could have been a no maintenance solution and fit the train yard theme.
