Concealed permit application question...
 

Where can hubby get a picture taken to put on his concealed permit application that meets their requirements? We are new here and not sure where to go or how much.

Walgreens, Walmart or anyplace a passport photo is taken.

I got mine at CVS for $10 about a month ago, just tell them you want a passport photo and they'll give you two prints.

If you belong to AAA they do it for free.

I just went to Tampa, gave then my NRA training certificate, old MA concealed carry license, and they took fingerprints, photo, and I filled in the application online right there. Took about 15 minutes. You should just call and set up an appointment. Got my concealed carry license in the mail 3 weeks later.

A word of advice to all of you who get your concealed carry permit without taking a class on the laws of Florida concerning concealed carry. The money spent on a good class of the requirements and laws is well worth the time and money. Florida is easy to get a concealed license but it is also easy to violate the concealed carry law and spend time in jail. Go take a good class. You will be glad that you did.

Then find a range and practice with our concealed carry firearm.

Know the Florida Laws
 

As a retired LEO who worked in NY, MD, and Fla, I can promise you, the laws are different in many states relative to carry. Florida has many restrictions on the carry laws which you may not be USED TO. Other states have free carry thoughout. Don't get arrested due to not being schooled on the Florida stautes. :ohdear:

Why did you go to Tampa?

We went to Tampa also vjust for the convenience of getting it all done in one place.

Sending in the application can take between 60 and 90 days. Doing all the paperwork in Tempa, usually you will have your permit in hand within 2 ot 3 weeks. Besides, Tempa has some really good shopping areas. Wife enjoyed the trip, got to shop, I got processed quickly and got to see some new parts of Florida. BTW, there are also some really great eateries there.

The voice of reason. It's still beyond me why people seem to feel the need to carry concealed weapons in Paradise. Next we'll see mounted cannons on the golf cars.

I guess those folks at the Empire State Building thought they were in Paradise also. Seems that the ones that were suppost to protect us are the ones that shot all those by-standers. Interesting enough, you are more likely to get shoot by the police, 11% chance, as shoot be a concealed permit holder, 2% chance. GunFActs 6.0, google it. Really interesting reading. Remember no place is paradise. Bad things happen everywhere, just some place bad things happen more often. No place is absolutely safe.

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot
 

Packing heat may backfire. People who carry guns are far likelier to get shot – and killed – than those who are unarmed, a study of shooting victims in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has found.

It would be impractical – not to say unethical – to randomly assign volunteers to carry a gun or not and see what happens. So Charles Branas's team at the University of Pennsylvania analysed 677 shootings over two-and-a-half years to discover whether victims were carrying at the time, and compared them to other Philly residents of similar age, sex and ethnicity. The team also accounted for other potentially confounding differences, such as the socioeconomic status of their neighbourhood.

Despite the US having the highest rate of firearms-related homicide in the industrialised world, the relationship between gun culture and violence is poorly understood. A recent study found that treating violence like an infectious disease led to a dramatic fall in shootings and killings.

Overall, Branas's study found that people who carried guns were 4.5 times as likely to be shot and 4.2 times as likely to get killed compared with unarmed citizens. When the team looked at shootings in which victims had a chance to defend themselves, their odds of getting shot were even higher.

While it may be that the type of people who carry firearms are simply more likely to get shot, it may be that guns give a sense of empowerment that causes carriers to overreact in tense situations, or encourages them to visit neighbourhoods they probably shouldn't, Branas speculates. Supporters of the Second Amendment shouldn't worry that the right to bear arms is under threat, however. "We don't have an answer as to whether guns are protective or perilous," Branas says. "This study is a beginning."

Daniel Webster, co-director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research in Baltimore, Maryland, thinks it is near-sighted to consider only the safety of gun owners and not their communities. "It affects others a heck of a lot more," he says.
