Default Ryder Cup

Have Patrick Reed and Jordan Speith turned off their brains? If I were Love I would have benched them in the afternoon.

Reed played great in the afternoon, but made an incredibly stupid decision in the morning that led to them losing a 4 up lead. Speith played terribly in the afternoon. I wonder if he was mentally affected by the decision that Reed made and the loss of a sure win.

Why do you want to blame Reed for the loss in morning, it was a team event. No one is perfect all the time.
I'm just appreciating all the great shots that these talented young men are making. In my youth I played on many teams in several sports, there is nothing like being part of something special. All 24 players are doing their best, let's just enjoy instead of critizing.

They both seem to be doing good on the final day.

Reed and Speith were four up on the 15th tee. Their opponent had hit their drive into the woods on the short, narrow par four. Reed decided to hit driver and also hit it into the woods. They lost that hole and it started a downward slide. His partner is one of the best wedge players in the game. If he had hit a log iron or hybrid into the fairway it would have given them a good shot at birdie and an almost certain par which would have won the hole and closed out the match.

In match play when your opponent is in trouble it is always best to play safe. As much as I appreciate that Patrick Reed played great in the following matches and was the hero of the 2016 Ryder Cup, that was one of the worst decisions I have witnessed on a golf course.

I too enjoyed watching these 24 guys play some outstanding golf, but there's nothing wrong with criticizing when you feel they make a mistake.

If you were Love the Europeans might have won.

Reed played especially well in the afternoon and in singles. I would have benched him and I may have been wrong. But second guessing is part of watching sports.

I am proud of the American players who stepped up and addressed the rudest crowd members, when a European player was about to hit.

That showed class on their part and helped...a little...to tamp down the 'Ugly American' stereotype.

And with Reed going 3-1-1 overall...I think Love knew what he was doing.

All in all though...we saw some fantastic golf.

Agree. Just as there's nothing wrong with expressing disagreement with the criticism.

As far as Reed's errant tee shot...I doubt it was his decision alone to hit driver.

To me the highlight was when McElroy drained about a 60 foot putt. He justifiably went nuts. Then Reed knocks in his 30 footer on top of it and goes just as nuts. And of course the crowd goes nuts for both. Then they fist bump and move on. Wow.
