This is unusual in the four years that my family have owned athens for me or anyone in my family to publicly write any response to any comments made by our guest no matter if they were good or bad . Our normal way of communication is to call and or send a message directly to a guest so that we can remedy any problem and or thank them for something nice that they have said. In this case I feel that maybe I need to explain the entire situation so that people can understand where the problem occurred and the way we have quickly fixed it. First the guest who brought the dog in has a license that is real for her dog to be a service dog. The law states I have absolutely no legal right to turn her away and to be honest these dogs save peoples lives and help many people with day to day functioning. Now here's where the problem started , the guest asked if the service dog could stay on her lap? Again we have no right to say no. What occurred next is the problem the guest then put the dog on a bar stool and asked for a plastic cup of water for the dog. This should never happened and will never happen again in my restaurant. The way this was remedied is the staff involved were written up and given a warning for their jobs, not because that was anyone's reccomondation but because that's how we handle a serious breach of policy. Lastly I will end with this the bartender that some of you have requested gets fired is honestly a good good person who I hold in high regards. He works very hard, a lot of hours and from a personal stand point is a single father of two small children that he cares about more then anything in the world and works to provide for them. You never hear this young man complain or even talk about how life is unfair he just stepped up to the plate and did what other fathers could never do. I can never explain how much I appreciate everyone's support the last 4 years but I felt it was time for people to realize that it's easy to say just to fire someone for a mistake they made but it's not as black and white as some people believe.
Thank you for your time and again I always welcome anything I can do to better my business Christopher Kitrinos family |

This armchair calling for the bartender to be fired is absurd. The teachable moment has arrived. The owner is now well aware. My guess is the situation will be addressed effectively. But firing. C'mon.
Bartenders and servers know they have to people-please. What a mess. In more ways than one. (Besides, chihuahuas can be intimidating. Just imagine one bellying up to the bar demanding to be served.) Seriously, I feel bad for the bartender. The bartender probably thought the customer is always right. Now the bartender will know he has the backing of his boss should the situation happen again. So, seriously, think about it. Fire the bartender? I think not. It looks to me like the tail is wagging the dog here. |

Very well said. You do not have to apologize to any of those posters who have told you how to run your business.
This should be the end of and further comments towards the management!

I wanted to quote you here because while I was writing my eloquent defense of the bartender, in post 49, you were posting the above in post 48. I was a bit riled up back there and felt the need to write post 49 (though I did go back and edit out some of my comments on customer behavior.) You see, I had grown quite weary of those ridiculous calls to fire the bartender and had to jump in to seek justice. Then I saw your post, after I hit submit. So I see I was even more right than I thought I was. You sound like a fair boss.So anyway, I just wanted to make sure your post was not missed. So that's why I put it here. I rest my case. (And I gotta learn to rest these typing fingers.) PS: I will be back to Athens. Such wickedly wonderful desserts. |

All is well that ends well....
To error is human.... I am just sorry another Chihuahua owner didn't think before they acted. Our Chihuahua hopes he's learned to keep his paws on the ground. The bartender now has the backing to let patrons know the rules. A fine line at times... Kudos to the restaurant owners!! |

To the Kitrinos family,
I know how difficult to run a business, especially a restaurant. Thanks for not taking out this situation on your employees. Haven't been to Athens in awhile but will be there to see you in the next week or so. You sound like a stand up guy. Hang in there! |
