"Dabbling in stock"? I predict that Chris will be bartending or working somewhere again soon.

We have been going to Cane since it opened. Last Saturday evening was our last visit. The two bartenders on duty left dirty plates, glasses , etc all over the bar. I had to ask one to please clean off the bar in front of us so we could eat. Also had to ask them to refill drinks. Things have really changes since Chris, Dan and Sandy are no longer working there.

Dan did not get fired. He left on is own. Sandy is at Havana and Chris is doing something more stimulating. James is still there as is a new James (called Jim). I never had a problem with Sandy taking care of me, and I don't mean free drinks. Happy hour (which I only went to about 3 times in 10 years) is cheap enough. Soo a bartender buys a drink for a regular sometimes. The regulars are there all year, not 2 or 3 months and they tip. Do you know the hourly wage of a bartender? Shame on you cheapos. I have seen some big tippers at the bar (wow $1.00 for $20 tab.), or no tip because they don't tip where they come from (but you pay a service charge in your check).

Stopped in there Saturday night at 6:30. Typically the bar would be two deep. There were we're a total of six people at the bar. Many empty seats. The old gray mare ain't what she used to be.

Same thing happened at Mallory when two of their " stars" left the bar....three months later it was standing room only again...

I worry about people who worry about their favorite bartender
Have a problem, maybe? |

In goes without saying that “good” employees are difficult to find. Perhaps they got offers and moved on to bigger and better jobs. For sure they won’t have a problem finding a job in this work environment.

And that is spot on. Having been in the restaurant business for over 30 years I can tell you good employees are always the difficult to find, hire, and retain. Everyone else wants your stars. With the growth here and the low unemployment rate, it's an employee's market.
