Default not unusual...

Since there are many offers for this type of deal around Christmas, we often buy gift cards and get the coupon/certificate. I have done this with Applebees, Logans, Texas Roadhouse, McAllisters and always there is an expiration date for the gift coupon and not on the gift certificates.

Now if there is an expiration on the gift certificates, then that would be unusual.

With the popularity of Cody's your absence should help get an appreciative customer in a few minutes sooner.

If I give a restaurant $20 for a gift certificate, they have my $20. Even if prices go up in the restaurant, I would just get less food for my $20.

It is one of the best places in town for a Bud Light or ice-cold Micheloeb Ultra (my new favorite).

Yes, and add Carrabas to that list. We did the same thing, we let our incentive certificate expire. It's probably why the restaurants offer the incentive certificates - they make a bunch of sales on the regular gift certificates, and a certain portion of those who get the incentive certificates forget to redeem them.
I'd nicely speak to the manager about it to see if they'd make an exception.

Cody's is packed every night even in the off season. I'm sure they won't miss one disgruntled customer who would probably find something else to complain about - in their second post.

Unfortuanately the $20.00 certificate given as an incentive had a expiration date. When we called and asked if they would honor the certificate after the expiration date they said NO!!

We will definitely frequent a different restaurant.
The expiration date is stated on the card.

That's true for gift cards, not necessarily gift certificates. It is stated on the bonus certificate. Same thing at Bonefish for the bonus certificates.

2 totally different things.
Was there a expiration date given?
How much time was given to use it?
Might be wrong to blame Cody's.
The expiration was printed on the bonus certificate.
