Default Ladies, Please Some Perfume Courtesy in Restaurants

Happy Mother's Day All!

Ladies, please consider others when you put perfume on and plan to go out to eat. Just as our vision and hearing diminish for some with age, so can your sense of smell! Many people are allergic to or sensitive to perfumes, and your favorite cologne from the 1960's could ruin the flavor of a beautifully prepared meal for the couple sitting in the next booth.

We had a wonderful meal at Sky this afternoon. Around 4 pm a party of six, 3 at first. They moved their table to the window, and one woman had the strongest scent on (Chanel #5), it "wafted" through the entire restaurant, then the second half of the party arrived, and POW! another, different odor, wafted. To make matters worse, the perfumes themselves clashed.

People, Villagers would not go into a restaurant smelling of incontinence, as they'd be aware of offending others. It's no different for strong perfumes.

When you are dining out, or at church or the movies, or even in the grocery store PLEASE be considerate of others. You have a choice as to whether or not to wear perfume. The individual who has to abide by your odor has no choice but to suffer through it.

Thank you.

The same can be said for men's cologne! I am sensitive to some perfumes and colognes, and have to move tables in restaurants sometimes because of the fragrances. One restaurant we went to, the waitress sat a couple in the next booth and the scents hit me like a ton of bricks. The waitress came over to our table right after she sat them, and I immediately asked to move to another table. So she said go ahead and pick a table and move and she would be right back to take our drink order. So we moved, and everything was much better until the waitress came back to the table and I realized the perfume was on the waitress!

you have no idea what they might smell like without the perfumed scent. I enjoy smelling like a girl.

This scenario would also apply to men who wear aftershave or cologne.

Default A rose by any other name would smell.

I don't wear perfume and really don't know many that do. Many of my friends use Body Lotion or after bath splash and most moisturizing creams have scent too.

One of my dear friends said that someone at a Mahjong table put on a mask and said that she was allergic to the scent of perfume. Imagine how everyone felt.

I may be one of the people losing my sense of scent, but I doubt it. I can always tell when a roast is done just by the smell and I can smell rain coming. I am again a lucky duck, I have rarely been annoyed by perfume. I have never liked the smell of a cologne or aftershave on men. I don't know why. We are all different.

Definitely applies to men as well. I think today's colognes and perfumes are much lighter than the classic standards like Chanel & Paloma. I got those for my mom years ago & she still has them. After dinner today I went to smell them & realized how heavy they were.

I think a couple of dabs behind the ears & a few places is fine- that wouldn't smell up a room though.

Maryann, does this mean I can identify you at Mass by your perfume!?

The worse case scenario I've encountered was a trip home on the airplane. The young woman in front of us must have showered in her cologne! I had the worst heacache when we finally embarked. Being in such close quarters, people should really refrain from wearing scents. Just a small consideration goes a long way.

Some perfumes or colognes are a problem for me especially if they are applied heavily. "A little dab will do ya" as the saying goes. I hate to have a show at the Savannah ruined for me because someone has "bathed" in the stuff and I don't have the option to move with paid tickets for reserved seats. Men and ladies, please be considerate and conservative with colognes when you will be in close areas with other people.

I always wondered why perfume and after shave/cologne were necessary when most soap these days is scented. Don't the scents conflict? I really think some people (men & women) do the cowboy thing and cover BO with scented water. I could be wrong.

I think the very heavily artificially scented thing is becoming a thing of the past. I seldom encounter it on men/women under the age of 50. So if you're using one of those heavy scents - lighten up. You probably don't need it as much as you think. A daily shower is the best deterrent to offensive odor.
