What has happened to Cane Garden? The absolute worst burgers and
chicken ever. Have they changed hands? Was always excellent but very obvious
changes.

Don't know, but I suspect a change in the kitchen rather than ownership. Hope this was a one-time event. We liked the food there.

We used to use Cane after golf a lot, but they apparently changed policy on groups. They demand the entire group be present before sitting anyone. We usually have 20-24 players and the first groups would like to sit down and have a drink while waiting for the others. Nope. Can't do that. So we've gone elsewhere. Too bad.

Cane Garden has always had the policy of having your group there prior to being seated. Yes, they have bent the rules. Guess what, the birds are returning. Get ready to wait.

We were there today. Soup (lobster bisque), salads, quiche all good and served promptly. Hope the bad experiences were isolated events. Really like the place.

My golf group, 12-24 players has been boycotting Cane for a few months because of their refusal to seat us until the whole group is present. Believe Cane is one of the few Restaurants still owned and operated by TV. Their long standing requirement to seat all golfers at the same time is absurd. When booked at Cane we now go to Bravo Pizza, Sonny's, ToJays or Waterfront Inn, all of which treat us like welcome guests. Have sent E Mails to Restaurant Mgr and Villages Mgt., none of which seem to care. Bottom line is boycott the joint like we do. Maybe some day they will get the message. Has nothing to do with the food, just the attitude.

Default We love Cane Garden for their great burgers!

We three G's went to Cane Garden last night for the yummy angus burgers, fries and great slaw. We weren't disappointed, good as ever.

Some good restaurants have off nights. Depends who is in that kitchen!

I've always enjoyed Cane Garden, too, Gracie. Mike and I met laryb and his lovely wife Mary there a couple of weeks ago for dinner and talk. (You'll love them both, Gracie, they're wonderful people and The Villages is a better place with them as residents. ) The food was good, the service was great, but I know there is a problem with large groups after golf.

It's called making a reservation.

Prior to teeing off, someone from the group will go into the restaurant and let them know when we'll be getting off the course, how many people there will be. We've NEVER had a problem. Our table is set up and ready when we get there. We're seated together, don't have to wait for the others, and the service can't be better. And this is at Cane, too.

But hey, if your golf group wants to show up at 5:30pm on a Saturday when a restaurant is busy and think your group of 30 will get sat immediately, infront of already waiting customers? Yeah, nice try.

Obviously, your golf group is NOT the only customer they have. They have other customers of equal importance. Don't blame this on the snow birds alone.

And before anyone gets high and mighty...ask yourselves this, when a group was, in effect "turned away," had the establishment been previously informed of the arrival of a group of X many, and that the group would begin to arrive at whatever time? If the answer is yes, then they knew you were coming, they screwed up, it's all on them.

But if the answer is no...no one person from the golf group let any member of a restaurant's staff know a large group would be coming in and when...can we really fault them for having a stated policy on seating large groups?
