Default Athens New York bad experience

Saturday afternoon, I stopped at Athens New York. I sat the bar, ordered a beer and food. Shortly after, a couple with a Chihuahua, sat one seat down from me and sat the dog on the bar stool next to me. When my food came, I told the bartender I was moving down the bar. He acted as if I were out of place and then set a container of water on the bar for the dog. The couple ordered appetizers and proceeded to feed the dog while he was sitting on the bar stool.
I am a dog lover but do not let even my dog feed from the table much less feed while some on is eating.
Athens has been one of my favorite restaurants but this has turned me off to a point, I doubt that I will return. Am I too harsh?

I would have definitely asked to see the manager. I love dogs, in fact, better than some people, LOL, but I don't want to sit at the bar eating with a dog seated next to me.

Too harsh? I think not. This must violate Health Dept codes. Should be reported.

we experienced the same situation at Johnny Rockets, the dog was walking on the table, (outside on the patio) and licking the ketchup bottle.
no one loves your pet as you do, stay home with your loved one, instead of sharing your table manners.

That does not sound like a company policy, but a "training" problem. If dogs are allowed at outdoor seating, the dog is restricted to the floor.

This dog in restaurants has gotten way out of control. Restaurants seem to think they need the business dogs bring in, but they don't realize how many they lose due to the inconsiderate dog owners. I too have seen a number of dog owners abuse the priviledge by letting them eat from the tables, sitting on chairs, barking at customers etc. As a dog owner, I will not stop at an eatery if my friend is with me. I fail to see the necessity in bringing ones pet to the restaurants PERIOD.

The management of these establishments need to take control quickly and I think you should tell them in writing why you will not be back, with a cc to the Department of Health. I like animals, but....they are not people and their owners should be asked to leave the premises if that is how they chose to allow these animals to behave.

I'd like to know the place so I can avoid it.

I just wanted to write a reply from Ricks post and apologize to him
As we have a policy that animals are not allowed at the bar and on any tables and or chairs. I will certainly make sure that the staff that was working Saturday is fully explained
Our policy again and I do apologize again to everyone Our guest are important to us
And I appreciate the concern Rick had about what happened and have reassured him it will be fixed immediately

Hopefully the problem is solved. Contacting the manager or owner could have had an immediate effect.

Ditto with the dog and the moving rice. Why don't people speak up?
