Default Sakura False Advertising

We love sushi and go out once a week for it. We received a coupon book with an advertisement from Sakura advertising Sushi Happy Hour. By any item from the sushi menu and get a second on at half price. Wed - Sat 7:00-8:30.
My wife calle dot make sure this was right and she was told yes, if you order any sushi item you get a second one at half price.
So we waited until 7:00 tonight (we usually have dinner around 5:00-6:00) and headed over to Sakura. I order the Sushi Deluxe platter and my wife ordered the same thing and mentioned the Sushi Happy Hour. The waitress looked like she didn't know what we were talking about and I said that we saw an ad for Sushi Happy Hour. She said "Oh, I'll go get the special sushi menu." She came back with a very limited menu for Sushi Happy Hour. I was not interested in anything on that menu so I asked again if we could get two sushi deluxe platters and get one for half price. She said no, so we left. On the way out, I mentioned that I don't do business with businesses that lie in their advertising. I went elsewhere for my sushi.

They don't allow discount coupons to be used with their Dinner Specials either.

Sounds like a very typical "bait 'n switch" scheme to me. If their disclaimers were not in their advertisement on the fine print on the coupon (albeit probably in very small print) they may be in violation of the law. You can file a report online with the FTC over bait 'n switch advertising.

Here is a link to their coupon. Don't know if you had a different coupon.

Below is an image of the coupon's offer that's being discussed here. On it you will see that it clearly states "Buy one sushi roll - get 2nd roll 50% off" I fail to see where Sakura was refusing to honor their offer or where there was any "bait & switch" going on as suggested. Seems like Sakura is wrongfully and undeservedly being given a bad rap here!

The image of the coupon from Sakura seems to be extremely clear in it's wording. A sushi roll is definitely not the same as the sushi deluxe platter.

Disagree. When I go to a bar that has a happy hour I don't expect every drink to be included. Usually it is well drinks, house wine, and tap beer. The offer from Sakura seems pretty black and white to me, more so than a bar.

Finally a reasonable and responsible perspective on this Thread. Knew that was going to be the answer despite never having seen the ad. Sometimes common sense goes a long way.

By the way, in answer to another question. Good Sushi can be had at Fresh Market!

The coupon that has been posted is different from the coupon that I received. My coupon says buy any item from the Sushi menu and get a second sushi item at half price. Additionally, my wife called to verify that that was the case and was told that it was.

VKI in Lake Sumter Landing has very good sushi.

Sakura's sushi is very good but not the best in the area. Also, their prices are higher than some other places.
