We were looking forward to having our Thanksgiving dinner at Palmers. Boy were we disappointed. The turkey was very salty, the dressing tasted just like gooey Stove Top Stuffing and the green bean casserole was lumpy (not sure how they managed that). The potatoes were cold and they weren't served with gravy. Adding insult to injury, we paid $18 per person for this. Needless to say, we won't go there for a holiday dinner again.

You're not alone. Mallory Hill was just as bad, and it was $21.95. The bartender couldn't make a stinger on the rocks correctly, my friend's wife ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and got a lime one.

Four tiny rolls for three people, and had to ask for a bread plate. Specifically ordered dark meat and got 2 small pieces breast meat. (it was moist aleast). Mashed potatoes pastety like box mix. The scoop of stuffing was like spackle compound, sweet potatoes , and I think the pumkin pie was from Sweetbay.

Mediocore meal and one $6.00 drink with tax and tip $35.00. Should have
gone to Continental Golf Club, $16.95 buffet.

Oh, I left out one other thing. You could barely cut the string beans with a knife. Should've had the ham instead, $3.00 cheaper.

Too bad. I usually enjoy my meals at Mallory.

Wow! My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner at Palmer's and it was great! I found the turkey good, greenbeans were delish. Sausage stuffing was especially tasty and the potatoes were hot and great, also. Service was perfect, we were seated on time. We brought home a piece of pie to share and even that was great!
Different strokes for different folks!! Palmer's was wonderful!
P.S. Forgot=Harvest salad and Butternut squash soup were incredible!

Giblet gravy, which was hot and tasty, was part of the meal, so I wonder why you had none? We asked for extra, even though some came with the meal,and were promptly brought a gravy boat at the table!

I must add at Mallory the highlight of the meal was the cup of butternut squash soup. I was delicious. But because of the way the menu was printed we were under the impression salad was also included. Not the case. Oh well

For us, the country clubs are what I call "generic" food, not great but not bad - just OK. On Thanksgiving, we went to Fishermans Restaurant on the 44 towards Inverness, a little whole-in-the-wall place that doesn't look like much from the outside but has the best food. I had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad, hush puppies, cranberry sauce, corn and bread for $13.95. Everything was delish, which is rare to find.
As for Palmer's, I haven't been there in over 3 years after a bad experience with terrible food at a high price. From what I hear from people, things haven't changed much.
I feel it is important to support the one-of-a-kind restaurants we have locally or all we'll be left with is the chain places. As for the country clubs, they will keep producing so-so food at prices I find too high for the quality, even Lopez.

I wonder...........and I don't know because I haven't ever eaten outside my own cooking or family cooking on Thanksgiving,

THAT

There are two kinds of dressing/stuffing prepared out there. The very moist kind and the dry kind. Our family does the very moist kind with lots of celery and onion and pieces of chicken and broth...yes chicken even if we are having turkey.

I think this, because in the Publix commercial the stuffing the grandma took to the family get together looked dry. You could see the big pieces of bread in it.

And we call stuffing, dressing in Ohio.

And I think that prepackaged sliced turkey only has white meat and I like dark. We carried in the turkey and dressing from Bob Evans this Thanksgiving and NEVER again. It didn't taste like the turkey and dressing usually served in the restaurant. I will cook the whole shebang even if it is just the three of us.

We went to Palmer on TG and enjoyed our meal ... everything was tasty, prompt, and plenty of food. Gourmet, no, but, good enough. $18 for Villages on TG day is pretty reasonable. Any meal I don't have to cook is a good meal

Now, our neighborhood potluck feast the Saturday before was outstanding .... sooo much food and so good. That was my "real" TG dinner.

and the buffet was terrific. The seafood Thermador had whole lobster claws and I managed to pick out 8 of them so that made the whole buffet worth it! There were 2 stuffings, one a traditional and one with sweet potato and pecan and cinnamon. When we went up the turkey white meat was being served so I had a goodly portion on the skin. The dessert table had many kinds of pies and cheesecakes. The veggie combo was good and except for the green beans which always are overdone on a buffet, the whole meal was a success for all 18 of us, and at $17 we considered it a bargain, especially as no one had to cook or clean up.
