Default Please check your receipts from city fire

We had dinner about 2 weeks ago at City Fire in Sumter Landing. This morning we were going over our credit card charges with our receipts and found that our City Fire tab had an additional $4.00 added. (We had already given the server a 20% tip.) The amount may seem small, but if a server does that for a number of unsuspecting guests a night, think of how quickly it will add up for them in a week. We are definitely going down there this morning to get it straightened out. Check your receipts!

Correct me if I'm wrong. Did the server add 4.00 in the tip area on the bill? Did you leave 20% cash on table?

We put our tip in the tip area of the receipt and then totaled it at the bottom--like always. The charge that came through had an additional $4.00

Wouldn't City Fire have a chance before reporting to the law??

I suppose that is one possibility.
But right now neither you nor I know all the circumstances.

The tip is usually added into the credit card machine (by the server), obviously after the customer has left. Could just be an honest error. Not all handwritings are that easy to read and everyone hits a wrong key every once in a while.

I would bring it to the attention of the manager, in case it was intentional, but don't be too upset yet. Please let us know the outcome.

Default Noticing that restaurant chgs post wierd

Since the recent rashes of account info thefts I have taken to checking the account on line every day or two just after I check my emails. I have noticed that the charges from restaurants sometimes stay in the pending list for a long time without the tip and then book in with the tip. We had one for Roys in Orlando sit for 10 days and then finally book. We were about to send a check to the restaurant for the tip as the guy was great and didn't want it missed. Had another awhile back that they had added a 0 to the tip, which I assume was a mistake. I called the restaurant and they credited back the discrepancy to my account but I have to admit $4 I probably wouldn't have noticed as we don't always tip the same amount, but $200 really caught my attention..

We always try to leave cash for the tip. May put the actual meal on the CC but leave a tip in cash. I think this is a benefit to the server. But most recently we are paying our restaurant bills in cash. This whole credit card thing is a mess. And until it is all sorted out, I think we will return to the "good-ole-days" of cash only. Its an extra step for us to always have cash, but holding my breath every time I check the credit card statement is getting old.

So, what is the rest of the story?

That happened to me at another business. When I made contact with them the manager explained that it was his error. At the end of the night, he adds the tip to the charge card and he put the charge from another card onto mine. Accidents do happen. Great response from the manager.

good grief Charlie Brown, I never ever audit for added charges...
but I was at the Shell on 466a a few minutes ago and gave a 5 for a 2.59 purchase, was handed 1.xx back. I'm looking querulous, and the cashier says, oh I shorted you a dollar. It wasn't on purpose. He goes on to say he also works a shift at Red Lobster. C'mon man, you work two places in customer service handling money and you can't make change with a register telling you it's $2.xx and not $1.xx... Really?

You cannot expect too much for $5.00/hour.
