Well, that's a bummer! I was hoping for an honest mistake. What a shame. Jobs are hard to find, and a server at a busy spot like CF probably makes good money. Hope she straightens out before her life is totally messed up.

I agree Suzi. Funny how these honest mistakes are always in their favor.

The amount may seem small, but if a server does that for a number of unsuspecting guests a night, think of how quickly it will add up for them in a week. We are definitely going down there this morning to get it straightened out. Check your receipts!
We ate at another restaurant which we frequent. Usually we pay cash but hubby forgot his wallet and I only had a few dollars, so we charged the bill. We left a cash tip. Our bank statement came and showed a $12 tip added on. Went to restaurant and talked with manager. He showed us the proof that it was a legitimate mistake and now the server is out that tip from another bill. She just charged the wrong account. I am not listing the restaurant because this really could happen anywhere and it was verified as a mistake and our money returned.

So watch your statements!

Informative post, without slamming a restaurant in advance of talking to the Manager.

I had that happen at another restaurant. The waiter changed my 3 to a 5. He was caught and the owner and police asked me to testify. One way to stop this is to write none on the tip and leave cash.

No. "None" tells the manager (who sees every one of those slips) that the server didn't do a good job. It's better to write "in cash" on that line instead. Managers see "in cash" all the time and know you probably gave a nice tip. Problem is, the buss boy sometimes pockets the whole thing instead of sharing it.

Why not do the boss a favor and tell him rather than post on the Internet?
Or is there more to this story?

Why all the negative posts on restaurants? Any good restaurant experiences? Only 5 posts and 3 are slamming three different restaurants ??

This will probably be deleted...but c'mon.....really???

It sounds like the work, of one isolated worker. I check my receipts carefully, and never had a problem.

Let's not give City Fire a bum rap, for the actions, of one bad employee.

Skip, first of all thank you for your very reasonable and knowledgeable posts on this subject. I always "worry" a bit when I leave the cash for the bill plus the tip on the table instead of handing it to the waitress. I don't know if the bus boy or a passing diner will pick it up and pocket it. I always try to hand it to the waitress or waiter. I assume from your post that it does occasionally happen.

Cash is still King.

But, when I do put my meal on the card, I always leave the tip in cash.

When our food was delivered to the table they brought me a chicken parm. Duh!!! No one at our table ordered that. The waiter came back & said he thought I wanted a chicken parm. No...I said. Please bring the tuna poke. Ok. Guess what when the bill came they charged us for the chicken parm, which was about $4.00 more than the tuna. My daughter ordered a white wine...they brought a red wine. The dumbah waiter acted like that was our mistake. No it wasnt't. Wait there is more. Wrong beer for my husband. Also I had a coupon for a free house wine with a food order. Knowing that this waiter didn't know whether he was pitching or catching, I purposely didn't order another wine. Guess what they still charged for my "free" wine. Then...my son-in-law told the waiter two times to bring him the check. You guessed it...at the end of the meal the waiter asked if we wanted two separate checks. Their service was one goof-up after another. What a jerk. I think waiters are supposed to listen to the patrons requests. Holy Cow!!! Very stressful.
I personally love City Fire and the employees ! There was not 1 thing said good about your entire experience so I'm curious if you talked to the manager and what he said about your server.

And Management's reply was?
