The chain has been struggling for a long time actually. The dinning room was closed for a long time and just recently reopened as a self-serve style restaurant. That will save you about 15-20% over the past server-style setup and the prices are very reasonable to begin with. Happy hour shakes in the afternoon!

I think the food is good (great thin style fries) and the shakes are excellent. We go once in a while and even ordered through Doordash recently just to give them some business.

They are a decent place and could use your support.

If you're not married to steak and shake there are new fast-food places opening here in The Villages all the time. I stumbled across a place called Burger-fi in Gainesville a few years back and wished there was one closer. They're now to opening one on 466A, I guess rubbing that rabbit foot for all these years actually worked. Try it you'll like it.

Maybe that would work to get a Costo around here.

Do you mean on Sunday? Not sure how many days folks go to church. Most of these type places aren't "after Church on Sunday" lunch places. Usually they are weekday lunch places when likely it would be much busier. That said, help is difficult to find for any day, but weekends, especially Sundays are the worst. Haven been to S&S in 2 years. I have an old gift card still in my (electronic) wallet. Their indoor seating was closed for over a year from the Pandemic so we never went back. Good to hear they are opened indoors again so I can finally use my remaining $21.18.

If it was a weekday at lunchtime, disregard all the above! I connect church for the most part with Sunday but have no experience so could be way off.

Their chili and chili 3 ways are a favorite.

S&S was my first paycheck job at 15 years old, back when they had carhops, making shakes/malts and sodas at 75 cents an hour.

Sad to see their decline.

We had some gift cards and thought we would use them up.

What a sad sight.
3 maybe 4 cars in the parking lot.
5 people total in the dining room.

We attempted to use the kiosk to order and had trouble ordering two meals.
No one in sight to help, so we left and went to Culvers.

They wouldn't be in business to long.
Our first Thanksgiving here 7 years ago we had Thanksgiving dinner there.
