We were looking for a take out meal and we said lets try Thai Ruby on Canal St in LSL. Didnt have a menu so we went online found the menu and made an order of 2 soups and 2 currys.
We went to pick up the order and what a surprise...25% than what we expected and saw from the on-line menu. Practically everything had a $2 up charge. WhenI questioned them at pickup they said these were their current prices and that they have no control of the web-site......it is NOT their web site. I asked to speak to the owner and she was in Thailand and the supposidly manager who I did speak with was laughing but did say do you want the food or not. ...he also said they get alot of issues or compalints about the web site....so It happens alot. $35+ for a take out Thai meal was expensive (and nothing fancy) but what was I to do. Fortunately the food was good but I normally never pay that price for take out for 2. In todays internet era, on line ordering is the norm... and if they say they dont own the site were the menu is do they have a responsibility to do something about it //. Bottom line is they have no incentive to make changes to the web site especially when people ordering think they are getting food MUCH cheaper than what they will actually pay. Another lesson I learned from this is to make certain you are dealing with the establishments web site ...not always easy to determine but when in doubt ask questions? Has anyone had a similar situation ordering from a web based menu and if so what did you do??? |

I have always found that when I search on a restaurant you have the choice of either clicking on the web site or menu. If you click on the menu you are usually brought to a site like Yelp that has the restaurant menu. As you found out the hard way they can be out of date because they are not maintained by the restaurant. I would hope that if you clicked on the restaurant's web site the prices should be current.

Actually $35.00 is not overpriced at all whether take out or not.
On the other hand, I probably would have ordered on the phone and then asked how much each item was. When they asked you if you wanted the food or not, they were probably busy and wanted a decision. You were probably thinking that they should give you the price that you saw on the web site and were waiting for that offer. Glad you enjoyed the food. When the owner gets back it may be worth your while to speak to them. Much luck and happiness to you both. |

I would have told them that I want the food at the price that on the website. Is they didn't agree to thatI'd walk out the door. What are they going to do with that food then?

That's the only way that kind of mindset will learn. They have to get stuck with the stuff a few times and perhaps then, they will treat a customer as a customer should be treated. If the website wasn't theirs, then whose was it??!?

There are websites that post menu prices for restaurants even though they are not the official website for the restaurant. For example, a Google search of "Thai Ruby The Villages," shows links to menu websites, but no link to an actual Thai Ruby website. An example of these websites is allmenus.com.
It seems to me that the restaurants have no control over these "menu websites," so the restaurants should not be expected to honor prices listed by an independent website. You will notice that the original poster never stated that they got the prices from a Thai Ruby website. A similar example would be if someone checked gas prices on the mobile app GasBuddy. If they go to the gas station and the price is higher, I doubt that many people would think that they should honor the price someone posted on GasBuddy. |

The Op in this case is at fault for not doing their homework. It's a shame they are maligning an honest restaurant. People are going to see the title of this thread and get the wrong impression. ![]() |

AS far as the title, let there be no wrong impression ....YES be careful when ordering takeout from Thai Ruby. The fact that Thai Ruby's management knows this web site (which is not theirs) is causing concern and confusion with their "take out" customers, they could at least confirm the price total when you are placing the order as many take out places do. Ignoring the problem is not good business...but again their food is good! Last edited by 784caroline; 09-08-2014 at 11:34 AM. |

I agree with the OP, only thing differently I would have done was walk away when they asked if I wanted it or not. I'm not giving money to a business that is rude.
