TooJay's filed for bankruptcy. So did Sweet Tomatoes - they closed their Hwy 441 location. Was that because the rent was too high? SteinMart is closing.
TooJay's in Brownwood and Lake Sumter remain open.
Yet some people want to blame The Developer.
Maybe you should criticize people for not supporting local businesses. Because when you don't, they go out of business.
Absolutely we need to support local businesses when they provide good service or decent food! TooJays was just not decent enough!

When in MI I go to Ann Arbor to eat at Zingerman's Deli, the best west of the Hudson River. But at $16 for a full sandwich, Villagers would not support this great restaurant. Their breads are amazing. Check them out.

TooJay's in Lake Sumter Landing is still open. Is an easy, enjoyable and quick golf cart ride from Spanish Springs Town Square.

Gator's Dockside, Amerikanos and Margaritia Republic are still open in the square. Just up Main St we have The Corkscrew, Panera, Ay Jalisco and Ruby Tuesdays. Just off the square on Alverez McCalls and Flippers Pizza are still operating.

Then if you go a few hundred yard to the east there is the Publix strip mall where Sakura, Darrells and a Chicken Salad place are open.

A couple of restaurants closing is not a big deal. TooJay's filed for a reorganization type bankruptcy. It's obvious that they would close underperforming stores. It has nothing to do with apartments. Demshar's is closed temporarily. Hopefully, they will be able to reopen soon. Once we have a vaccine and get back to normal, those spaces will get filled.

Off topic, but could you post the instructions for making pastrami? I'm intrigued and think my husband would like this.

Very sad! love their corned beef. Morse family would let them go rather than giving them a break

So it’s the developers fault that too jays filed, and is closing Many restaurants that are under performing. Blame that on those who do not eat there, to keep it a thriving business, changing their rent doesn’t force patrons to eat there

Currently Jersey Mikes is a much better sub than Subway/WAWA in my book til something better shows up.
A Wawa sub is a lot better than Subway. IMHO.

It is! TV rent is 20-30% higher than everywhere else and they have to pay a royalty fee to TV. More and more will move on because the overhead costs are too much. Not just Spanish springs it’s the economy of the future. Less of everything and only the fiscally strong survive. Our world will never be the same.
