Could "upscale" and "elitists" be synonymous?

We make the best pizzas on our Big Green Egg, The Egg gets to 700 degrees and there isn't a steak in the Villages that can come close. Our Veal Milanese on a bed of arugala is the best Italian dish.

Really would like a good pan Asian restaurant, an Italian restaurant that can make northern food, a good German restaurant.

The last time I was in a dimly lit, quiet, upscale establishment, where nobody was yelling; I couldn't see the menu or hear any of the conversation.

Well Rubicon, I can agree with your sentiments. Having spent half my life in NYC, I must say that its height above sea level has grown dramatically in recent decades. The air is very thin way way up there, far above "fly over land," and the South for sure.

Is it "jealousy", or just "uppity".

When the first and main criterion is to spend $100+ for dinner, instead of the quality of the food/ambience/service obtained for that expense, it sounds like income/spending status is the goal.

This isn't the first time somebody here from the most expensive places to live--or even exist--implies TV is full of hayseeds.

Its not being elitist, to know what is above average. There are lots of upscale cars in the Villages. There are premiere homes. Also, we like to have a cocktail or two during dining ,sometimes a bottle of wine. Driving to restaurant more than one hour away means you will fail a dui test. It takes about a half hr. for the alcohol level to rise to the illegal point. It would be great if one or two of the clubs would set aside a room for quiet intimate dining.

By the way not from NY, from Cary<NC--could walk to a 5 star hotel, Ruth Chris, Bonefish Grill, Bella Mia (best pizza), An Pan Asian --check these places out

So now we know.

A guy from MA came up to me here once, asking if this would be a good place to which he should move, because he'd had 3 DUI's and figured he could drive drunk on a golf cart and not have to worry about a DUI (pronounced "dewey" which I had to ask for clarification on).

(My answer was YES, you can be arrested for DUI on a cart, and crash injuries to a cart driver will be far worse than in a car.)

Also, a person who can afford fine dining an hour away can also afford a private driver with limo.

onslowe: Yea if ChatBrat comes from an area such as NYC then it is going to be different as to restaurants entertainment etc. so if ChatBrat is a seasonal resident at least s/he will be able to compensate for the loss

My daughter lives in Mount Kisco and has spent many years in various cities in Westchester County its a different rhythm. i had to fly to New York often for business and could never really get the beat. I grew up in a small central New York town. I like simple. I like understated. I like peasant food. Life maybe too short to drink cheap wine but its doesn't mean that because its cheap it ha to taste bad. In fact the WSJ did an article some time back and intentionally replaced very expensive wine with cheaper wine in the expensive wine bottles called in experts to test each and the experts gave the wines wave reviews this one is so nutty and I can actually taste the charred barrel in this one etc etc etc and i am not knocking expensive wines.

Personal Best Regards:

I believe there is a market here for at least one signature dining establishment. With 120,000 people and a long way to go for the nearest one it could be a winner.

No matter which "one" it is, I'm sure for many, it would be the wrong one. LOL
