Suspects nabbed in ‘random’ burglary at home in Villages
January 10, 2014 By Meta Minton Leave a Comment
Derrell Harrison Jr.
The Villages Florida

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 3 burglary of a Village of Bridgeport at Miona Shores home.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies have arrested 20-year-old Derrell Harrison Jr. and a 16-year-old male in connection with the burglary that took place in the early morning hours while a Villages couple slept.

“This was a completely random crime,” said Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Bobby Caruthers. “We have found no connection between the suspects and the couple.”

The suspects tripped themselves up by using stolen bank cards in Leesburg and Winter Garden.

They had also taken a 50-inch television, digital camera and Macintosh computer. The TV was later discovered by the side of the road.

The burglars gained access to the home by tearing out a lanai screen, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Tuesday, Sumter County detectives arrested a 16-year-old juvenile from Coleman. He was charged with one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling and one count of grand theft.

Warrants were obtained for the second suspect, who was picked at his residence on charges of one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling, one count of grand theft and one count of fraudulent use of personal identification.

Glad they caught these idjits. What an absolute waste of their lives. So young to mess it up so badly. Now they need to catch the thugs breaking into the homes further south. And, of course, the punk who mugged the lady in the parking lot.

Wow! Really does seem like a lot of crime in a short period of time for here. Hope all are caught and things go back to "normal".

I feel safer, knowing they were caught, by LEO. Life is good!!!

16 years old and he picked, a heck of a career path.

That is a little young. IMHO

The whole thing is so sad. So young. That said I'm so very thankful that one of the crimes has been solved (breaking down doors & mugging being the others). I'm so conflicted on the whole thing. I don't see any benefit of a short meaningless sentence, so I'm hoping for a lengthy deterrent type sentence. But I'm also hopeful for some type of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation has to start from within (the person that committed the crime) IMHO. But I'm not sure there is a lot if any rehabilitation going on in our penal system currently. The alternative is an endless cycle of wash, rinse, repeat.
