Default Marlboro Man, R.I.P.

There was an A.P. article in todays Daily Sun: "Former Marlboro Man dies from smoking-related disease." His name was Eric Lawson. He was 72.

He portrayed a rugged cowboy for Phillip Morris. And he really did smoke Marlboro cigarettes, sometimes as many as 3 packs per day. In 2006 he was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

In the past several years he made public service announcements for the American Cancer Society.

My opinion: The "Marlboro Man" was a "real man"; he lived like a man and died like a man. What we need is more "real men" to step forward and teach the important lessons of life. We need the following:

1. Alcoholic Man

2. Red Meat & Processed Meats Man

3. Chip & Dip Man

4. Pizza Man

5. Soda & Ice Cream Man

6. Baked Desserts Man

Among other things "candy man" is slang for drug dealer, especially cocaine. Of course the nicotine in cigarettes is an addictive drug, so in a sense the Marlboro Man might be considered a candy man. His appeal to children, especially teen agers got many of them to start smoking cigarettes.

If I recall correctly on a radio interview about his book, "Liesureville", Andrew commented that when he arrived at The Villages ironically the radio station was playing "The Candy Man Can", sung by Sammy Davis, Jr..

Yes .... and I'd add "Refined Carbohydrates Man" ... especially after you read the book "Glycemic Load Diet"

You can probably find the first one laying on the highway next to his wrecked car and the last 5 laying in the hospital getting their arteries cleaned out.

Default I thought of another one but you might not like it: :-)

Super Bowl Man

Think concussions and broken bones etc. The average life span for an NFL player is only 55.

And NFL fans will be sitting in front of TV for 5 hours drinking beer and eating you know what - hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, ribs, and salty snacks in between, like popcorn. .....

Don't paint us all with the same brush. I will be watching the game, no party, no beer, no eating. Well. Dinner at the appropriate time.

We like to actually watch football be played.

I am pretty sure that all of these posters are bashing all of us that actually enjoy life - so don't feel bad.

I have no idea what their agenda is but I do not care.

Have a beer, eat a pizza and enjoy life!!! We will all end up in a grave at some time in the future.

Will they enjoy life when they get diagnosed with prostate cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or dementia, just to name a few diseases?
My "agenda" is to try to get people to think ahead. In life, I believe, you only get back what you put in. Just like when people delay gratification to save money for retirement etc.

Of course we will all end up dead. Does that mean we shouldn't bother going to college or trade school? Does it mean we shouldn't bother trying to better ourselves financially, mentally, spiritually, or physically?

I tend to be an optimistic person who believes that we should always try to be the best that we can be, rather than base our decisions on the notion that death is just around the corner. Is that a sinister "agenda"?

I vote for ,"The No Seat Belt Man/Woman".

The person who will bring the one reason why they don't wear selt belts, and wind up being thrown from a car, and dying.

Another case of locking the barn, after the horse has run away.

RIP - Marlboro Man.
