Default Landscaper Suggestion

Besides Village Palms, Ron's Landscaping and Mansfield Landscaping, who else have you used to re-do your landscaping that you would recommend? Thanks!

I'm sorry to pipe in here as I have not had anyone "re-do" my landscaping... I don't think it's any secret that I love my landscaping as it is.

As to reputable landscapers in The Villages... KGL and Jamie.. Those are the top five... Five you can count on and will be there for you if there is a problem.

We used McGowan. It was done March last year, here's a photo from last August.

Ours was not a re-do but rather, done from scratch.
Earthscapes Unlimited did ours from start to finish and did an excellent job.
Rhett, their landscape designer did an architectural rendering for our approval.
We made a few changes and viola . . . Perfection!

I don't know that the aforementioned list of the "top 5" is really true or accurate.
I really don't think there is such a "list."

There are many good landscapers who work in the Villages.
I have also seen some of Ron's jobs and he does nice work.
I wouldn't have Mansfield if he paid me. Most of his stuff all looks the same.
I won't go into any detail about his attitude towards some customers, which strongly needs help.

I'm at a loss as to why you didn't get along with Steve Mansfield... You seem like such a lovely person.

Thanks for the recommendations. I really enjoyed the pictures John_W. Bonanza, I know what you mean. When I called for information I just had to laugh at how caustic he was on the phone. I thought, "I wonder what he would be like to do business with?" I'm not going to find out!

SMH.... Shame on both of you. We already had a situation about people spreading rumors and lies and you come on with this.

This started by one poster who didn't even live in The Villages when he started posting against Steve, and everyone wanted to pile on after that.

None of the posters, including you have used him. While you don't hurt his business and in fact for some strange phenomena it seems to increase his business. It still bothers me to see adults spreading these stories about someone they don't know.

Someone says he treats his "customers" poorly, but if you talk to his "customers", you will find that isn't true. Another said he was "caustic" on the phone. I don't know what kind of person writes this kind of thing about someone they don't know, but I'm afraid I would probably be "caustic" to you as well.

Default Mansfield or maybe not

Angie, I too have heard a few stories about Mansfield. These stories are from people I know who have had very poor dealings with him. Some of which they have had to literally throw him off their property. He was abusive to them. So, this thread goes right along with which restaurants are good. Some have a great experience and some don't. I guess people just have to give things a try for themselves. I used McGowan and am very happy. They have done multiple jobs for me including putting in a putting green. To each their own.

I'm not sure how "I heard" to repeating it, doesn't equate to rumors.

I will continue to do my business by talking to the customers of the vendor in question and not to the people who didn't use him. Steve's customers love him and do business with him over and over.

Now let me tell you a story I heard... I heard that one of my neighbors moved because they hated the landscaping done by Steve so much they had to move away. Honestly.. this is what I heard. The people in question moved to Tampa, and in fact, hired hm to do their property there after they moved.

So goes rumors.

Default Landscaper Suggestion

We used "Everything Green and Inbetween" and are very pleased with the results. They were reasonable and were on schedule. They have done other landscaping in our neighborhood and they are all beautifully done. Felipe did our landscaping and he is very artistic in his design.

What ever company you use , check them out with the BBB . Angie's list is also a good place to get references .Get three bids on the work you want done.

Default Villages Palms

We visited their nursery and the young lady that answered questions was quite helpful. She sent a designer to our villa (mind you there is a $1500 minimum charge. He came out, took some notes, set up an appointment for us to stop back to see a 'computerized' plan. He called late morning of the mid afternoon we were supposed to see him and advised us that someone had booked extra appointments for him to visit. We rescheduled. Re-visited the nursery the next week for a 3pm appointment and he was out somewhere. We hung around until 330 and left. No phone call, no apology, no follow up. Why would I hire someone that is unable to keep appointments...and if I did, when would the work be completed? 2016? No thanks. We're still shopping. We have time.

So sorry you had a bad experience, we would like to make it right and offer some kind or discount. It does show that during our busy season, we as humans, can make mistakes. My Designers work very hard, and, had I known of this I would have come out myself and handled your design. We always strive to do our best, to satisfy everyone. I wish before bashing publicly you had reported this problem to management. I do want to make sure everyone understands that we didn't charge you $1500.00. Should you decide to give us a second chance, please call 753-4772 and request Wendy.
