Default Sleep Apnea

My husband suffers from severe sleep apnea and has wonderful success with his CPAP machine: no snoring, calm and good rest. I have mild sleep apnea and also use a CPAP rather successfully. We are new to The Villages, and need to establish ourselves with a sleep disorders physician in order to monitor our CPAP machines' calibrations plus get supplies; these must be prescribed by a qualified sleep disorder doctor in order for Medicare and our insurance to help with the supply acquisition and costs.

Anyone have a good doctor referral for sleep disorders? One you have used? Any support group here in TV? Any help would be appreciated as we have visited one such local doctor who REQUIRES another sleep study (I just had one 2 years ago!) before he will write any Rx. Our previous out-of-state sleep disorder doctor is being requested to send our records but this doctor says, "No. Still need a sleep study." Not comfortable with this doctor or his staff, so any help from you will greatly appreciated, as we do not plan to return to this outfit.

Default Medicare DME requirements

Any Physician can write an order for CPAP, BIPAP, or oxygen. It does not require a sleep disorder specialist. Medicare requires the ordering Physician to fill out a form once yearly justifying the continued need for CPAP or oxygen. In fact, they are required to attempt to titrate before continuing the order. That is the likely reason your new Physician will not accept a sleep study that is two years old. He will probably require you to have a new sleep study or order an overnight oximetry in your home by a local oxygen company.

The OP was asking a serious health question. That is a very inappropriate answer.

Dr. Upadya is who we use. She is very nice and will probably require a sleep study, just to verify the amount of treatment needed.

Default Lake Pulmonary Sleep Disorders Clinic

I just love Dr Felipe Ortiz. He is young and very nice. The main office is in Leesburg across from the hospital on the south side of SR 44; I see him at TV office at Laurel Manor. Ph# 728-0709. I'm pretty sure you will at least need an overnight oximetry.

There used to be a sleep apnea group that met at one of the rec centers, but haven't heard about them in quite a while.
