Default Credit Card Info Stolen

We returned to Maryland May 31, and received a call yesterday from Visa questioning a $200 plus charge at Dollar General in Eustis, Fl on June 11. Visa declined the charge and called us. This card is only use for gasoline purchases, and the only places it was used recently was at the Murphy Oil gas station on CR 466 and the Shell station in Wildwood. The card info must have been copied and a new card made as we have both Visa cards. I seem to remember reading something in the Daily Sun or here about a similar case at the Murphy Oil station.

I don't know about Visa, but we have our Amex set up to send us a text and an email on any purchase over $5. We know instantly when it is used. You can never be too safe. Give your Visa people a call to see if they offer this service.

Radioman,
Thanks for the heads up. Way too much of this kind of thing going on lately.
Wonder if the soon to come (maybe) chips will help us avoid these incidents?

This happened to me when using a credit card at the pump. They charged something, for $99. I assumed they used less than a $100, as that would be a felony conviction, if caught. It was quickly rectified by the visa reps.

I was paying cash at the pump for a while, then switched gas stations with no one in the proximity, of the pump. It didn't happen again. At least, not yet.

just get LifeLock and your problems are over I had all my information stolen, my information was sold on the Internet I have had them try to buy houses in my name try to buy a car in Milwaukee cell phones you get alerts I get about four alerts a week of things and been turned down. you definitely need to get a police report and be on file with all the credit bureaus as identity theft and it alerts everyone there's quite a network that alerts each other if your name or Social Security comes up with alert this is an ongoing problem. lifeLock will alert all your bank accounts in the three credit bureaus it is money well spent sure you can do it on your own but it takes all the anguish out of it. my local letter carrier will get within a two month. Two or three change of address where they try to change the address and get all my mail sent somewhere else. if your ID has been compromised your problems have just began and there's not anything you can do about it just get yourself alerted and move on. The real pros atthis will try for about 60 to 90 days and then they will give up and then your information is sold on different websites all throughout the world. The sad thing is your name birthdate social security number are out there forever and you just have to learn to except it and deal with it. if you have a private pension from a non-governmental agency alert them as to a check and balance is far as changes of address or beneficiaries. Best advice is be on your guard but don't be obsessed by it because it will drive you nuts.

Where exactly is this murphy oil station I keep hearing about on 466. Definitely want to avoid it. Any nearby landmarks would help.

Appreciate all the comments. We always pay for gas at the pump to get the credit card discount. We do have a credit monitoring service paid for by Target as the result of their huge credit breach. We will seriously consider the recommended company. This problem will only get worse until they change over to chips in the card instead of a magnetic strip. Banks and merchants don't want to pay for the changeover so we all pay in higher prices. It seems to have worked in Europe.

Got a call from the credit card company regarding online purchases which were NOT ours. In fact, while on phone with them, someone tried to charge something else! Card cancelled.
We called the manager at the Murphy Express gas station on 466 across from Walmart and she said they would look at the pump to see if anything found on/in it.
If anyone else has this problem, manager asked that you give them a call.

I have decided to only use gas cards, which I purchase at Publix, at a discount, whenver they offer them. Even if not discounted, it's a safer way. The cards are $50 value, which is just about how much I put in my tank each time, so there's nothing left to steal!

I do this all the time now. I go to Walmart or CVS and I will buy a gift card to wherever I want to go whether a movie or a restaurant or a gas station and then I will use the gift card instead of my own credit/debit card. I haven't used my Debit card in a couple of years now. It's especially good if you want to order movie tickets online, I just purchase a Fandango card and use it online. No credit card info given
