I went to Circuit City in Rolling Acres planing to spend about $200 on three items. I wanted to get the latest Quicken Deluxe that we are being sucked into by Intuit. I wanted a DVD/VRC recorder/player combo and a new cordless telephone.
First I had to walk all over the place trying to find some one to help me with the cordless telephone. The green shirts only do PC repair. The rdshirts pointed me to the guy with the big hair. There were three people sniffing after him. I decided to get the Quicken package. It took three people to point me to the wrong area but I finally found it. By then I said screew this and went to Staples and got the Quicken package and left. What good does it to have an electronics store in the neighborhood if they don't staff it properly? I aslso noticed that they have moved everything around and it looks more like one of those "service" stores we had in the Eighties - think Auther's

Recent reports indicated Circuit City was in trouble and decided to cut expenses by getting rid of their more senior knowledgeable sales help. The consequences of these cutbacks are now very evident.

I still want a new cordless telephone with caller id. After doing some research on the internet, I am ready to go in and collar a red shirt and get what I want.
Look for me it the Lake County police bulletin in the Daily Sun on Thursday. ;D

If you've done the research on the Internet, why not buy it on the Internet? Doing this is not 'the wave of the future' anymore; it's 'the wave of the present.' And especially so, if we can't get decent service in our local stores....

BTW - my research was for the different frequencies they have now. The 2.4, 5.8 and 6.0 GHz frequencies are new to me. Mine is an 900 MHz. I was amazed with the different setups - single base , base with extra headsets, call waiting, speakerphone. Truly amazing.

I refuse to go into Circuit City since they fired their experienced employees. I buy on the internet all the time and have never had a problem. I like Ebay BUT check the sellers Feedback before bidding.

Z...If it helps, was wandering through Target (in the back rows), actually pushing a cart for the boss, anyway found exactly what you are looking for and purchased same. Included 3 handsets and similar to what I purchased at sam's 4 years ago. An AT&T set.
Works great and has all the features including an answering machine. |

Sam's Club in Ocala.....Vtech 6.0...base station plus two additional handsets.....$99.
A little bigger than a cell phone...packed with features...user friendly...very effective speaker phone. I am sure it is available other places that carry any number of phones. BTK |

In my opinion the Circuit City in Lady Lake is a joke. I leave there with a headache every time I try to buy something. I swear up and down I will never go back, but alas, I do and it's the same Bull **** every time. They stink.

Jan, I agree.
Recently shopping for a Tele. The guys at Circuit City there were horrible, they were uninterested in our questions and unwilling to talk on our level. Same at Best Buy, were we got the Tele cause their price was right for the unit we wanted. On the flip side we talked to a guy at Sam's and he was terrific, to bad they didn't have the Tele we wanted.

If you buy on line at Circuit city, they will deliver it to the store and you can pick it up in 24 minutes or they will credit you $24. I bought a sony tv on line Saturday around 7pm; my husband went over to the store, picked it up and was home before 8. If there is a problem just return it to circuit city. It couldn't be easier, but you need to do your research first.

Circuit City (NYSE: CC) has been synonymous with electronics retail, but companies like Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) and Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) have brought too much marketing muscle and wholesale buying power to the industry. Outside investors are already circling Circuit City trying to "improve shareholder value". That means that there is a good chance the chain will be sold. The price of the company's shares has already dropped from over $30 less than two years ago to just over $4. Best Buy could be the most logical buyer by keeping the locations that do well and closing the rest. Virtually all the merchandising, management, and public company costs would go away as would the Circuit City brand.

I usually want to look at most of these electronic products before I buy them. Whether or not it is Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal-mart or Sears, I think we need them around so we can comparison shop. Too many time, I go to the internet and look at the brochures, specs, technical data and it does not cover the one or two simple features that I want. I hate to buy something expensive and find out the they have regressed with a simple feature that I thought was common on all versions of the product.
As much as I like the Internet, I don't want it to become my only shopping mall.
