Default Traffic light working on Colony

Just got back from a trip to Publix. The traffic light on Colony Blvd is now working and cars and carts seemed to doing well at the crossover. There are indeed large electronic signs notifying drivers of the signal ahead.

the shame here is that this intersection was not properly designed by the developers consultants but was accepted by sumpter county traffic administrators, and the villagers had to pay the bill to fix it

That particular road belongs to the Villages, not Sumter county.

The developer did put up a significant amount toward the light.

The cost is reported to be just over $117,000 with the developer paying $100,000. That is a great deal for villagers. IMHO.

I think the real test will be when people come back from their summer homes and the traffic volume increases proportionately. Hopefully if there are some issues they can be worked out.

Has anyone noticed if the light is sensor activated so traffic doesn't have to just sit there at a red light when there are no vehicles crosing in the other direction?

The intersection WAS engineered to handle the traffic flow. The fly in the ointment was the absolute refusal of drivers on Colony to adhere to the 20mph speed limit, thus deterring the safe ingress onto Colony from the multi-modal path.

That may have been an issue but am not sure it was the only one. However, there is no way the intersection was designed to handle the amount of traffic it will see once the Fruitland Park section is completed.
