If you have notice a dramatic change in your battery life you may have one of the iPhone 5's that is being recalled. Go to the Apple website to check serial numbers and dates. I recall seeing a post on here where one woman suggested that the GPS App had effected the battery life on her iPhone 5. I am guessing that she has a recall model.

A possible confusing statement, however I assume it means the unit has a battery that replaced the original. It would seem to be more simple to state yes or no whether one is a recall candidate.

No doubt some legal shennaigan that requires the overkill approach/language.

It probably said EITHER:
The serial number you entered is not eligible under this program because either:
- It's not one of the serial numbers in the affected range
- Our records show that your battery has already been replaced. If you paid for a battery replacement service

I got my iPhone 5 the first day they came out in September 2012.

Checked my serial number at the Apple site and it said mine is not in the defined range.

Can't figure that one out.

Hubbie and I got ours on the same day. His is recalled, mine isn't. Go figure.

Now here's the catch: because his battery kept dying, he replaced it using a kit from the Internet (not recommended unless you are used to working with electronics, because this can void the warranty. He would like Apple to send him a new battery as a spare; Apple would replace the battery or refund the cost of the one he bought - except that he no longer has the receipt. After hours on the phone today working up the chain he still doesn't have an answer on if they will simply send him a battery; they say they will call him back "soon".

My iPhone is not on the recall list, and it has terrible battery life. I have done everything suggested to improve battery life, including making sure my apps aren't running in the background, turning off push notifications, retrieving my email manually, turning off location for most of my apps. It still is terrible and may force me to switch from apple if the new iPhone isn't significantly better.

I made my appointment to switch out my iPhone five which was on the list. They don't actually change batteries they just give you another iPhone five. The appointment is for Labor Day afternoon at the Apple store in Orlando.
When you call Apple they run a test and look up your serial number at the same time then they make the appointment at whichever Apple Store you choose.
