Default Home Break-in

Last evening around 6:45 my husband and I observed a "crime scene" sheriff's vehicle in front of the home on the north side of the street at the entrance to Barrineau Villas in Fernandina. Later in the evening, neighbors told us that the residents of that home had been away for 7-10 days, and upon returning home, had discovered that their home had been burglarized. This makes two burglaries in Fernandina in the past two weeks, with two others only a few months ago. That's four burglaries within 1/4 mile of our house in less than a year! While we know that all communities have crime, we've never lived anywhere in which crime was as high as it is here.

Villagers are easy targets for many different reasons. The mere fact that so many vendors and other people know when you are gone or that many homes are simply vacant for long periods of time makes it easy for them.

The difference is we usually get em. We need to look out for one another and don't hesitate to report anything that looks suspicious.

Four break-in's in the same area in a short period of time would indicate the same person(s) are committing these crimes.

The type of work available here in The Villages would not require much but that a person indicate he/she was in need of a job and/or the employer in need of labor. hence background checks etc which would alleviate some of this is not existent. In fairness it could be a resident creating this climate or people just passing through.

Because of this very topic I do not invite vendors into my home and that runs against my nature but............................................... .......

My wife and I do not care much for jewelery, stones, etc nor would we only carry a few bucks for incidentals. Heck we live so conservatively I might as the burglar for a helping hand

I hope they catch them soon. A few people can cause a lot of distress. Perhaps good vendors should be on the lookout to protect their businesses and not be tarnished by the bad ones.

What is disturbing is that there has been no mention of any of these break-ins in any newspaper, or did I just miss it?

Lets put the retired Village cops on the case. I bet they can figure it out!

And really, don't bother with efforts for community watch. It's more than retired people want to bother themselves with.... Apparently...from the fact that we do not do it, and why not?
My community has failed to respond with action.

Or maybe you would like the code for wildwood police annex in brownwood. The secret door code is the 4 digit street address that you see above the door.
You should feel more secure now.

Kitty, A CDD is not allowed to have anything resembling a police force. I am sure that if the Community Watch observed anything hinky, they would call 911 or the dispatcher would do so. I know that once in our neck of the woods, Crime Watch did chase down some guys going through trash bags, apparently looking for documents containing personal ID.
