My paperwork is not available and my A/C went out this PM. Anyone know warranty coverage and time....bought my home Dec, 2010.

We bought new in 2006. The Trane AC was installed by Sunkool. And the AC had an extended warrantee of 5 years as part of the sell price of the house. Sunkool initially tried to sell me this coverage but checked the records and found that it was already covered. I would expect that the Trane AC warranty was only one year. Note that the extended warranty required that I pay for a yearly checkup. That may be a clue as to whether you have an extended warranty.

Your best bet is to call your AC installer and ask them. After 5 years I renewed the warranty and had to pay about $1000 for years 6 thru 10.

I've wondered this myself since I've known several folks who've had AC issues. Some having to replace theirs, even. In a recent conversation with a friend that this happened to, they said they were told to expect AC's to last about 6 years!! NOT too encouraging to hear especially in this climate!

We purchased in 3/14 and called Munn's Sales and Service that did the install. IF I understood correctly, the condensing unit, air handler, and thermostat are covered for LABOR only for 5 years. This was a service contract purchased by the builder after the first year of coverage. To keep the warranty in place you must have an annual maintenance check.

What I failed to ask, was the coverage by the manufacturer. We've had heat pumps installed and we were given a warranty by the manufacturer of 5 years for some parts and 10 for other parts. We then purchase an extended warranty for the labor. We'll be in the area in October and this is a question we have for Munns.

I would call the company that installed the units for specific coverage. We've found with new construction (not just The Villages) you get heat pumps that are a few years behind the latest technology. You would think the unit should last longer, but then have to ask yourself how much am I spending on maintaining and inefficiency? Is it wiser to replace? But, your first step may be best to call the company that installed the unit and the information should be with closing papers/warranty if new construction or on the side of the unit.

Call TV Home Warrranty ...they can tell you specifically if an added warranty was included in the price of your home and if it is still valid. Just give them your lot number.

BTW: If you bought your house new you should have a detailed listing of all options included in the price of your house. Any warranty information on your heat/ac unit would be included in that information.We had an extra 5 years added into our purchase (total of 10 years from purchase) but it was only for the unit itself and any parts...not labor...(labor stopped after 5).

AC and/or heat pump units should last more than 6 years with proper maintenance...easily 10+.
