I think you hit upon why USA hasn't done well in recent years. Ryder Cup requires "teamwork". Well done by Europe.

I believe that this Cup was lost on the day Captain Watson made his three picks. Mahan and Simpson looked lost and spiritless all week. Patrick Reed had fire in his game and I'm reasonably sure that Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk would have behaved as Reed did.

I hated to see the USA lose again, but I think that The Ryder Cup is the most exciting and best sporting event in the world.

I was at Brookline all three days in 1999 and was about 100 yards from the green when Justin Leonard made that famous putt. The atmosphere was electric.

I've been to a Super Bowl, World Series Games, US Opens, PGA Championships and the final game of a Stanley Cup Championship. None of them come close to this.

I think that it's because it's and entire country versus an entire continent. The fact that no one wins any money also makes it more exciting. Everyone is playing for pride and nothing else. The players have always felt that it's the most important thing that they do as professional golfers.

I think that Captain Watson made a few mistakes, but as badly as they lost, I don't think that they would have won if he had made some different decisions. It might have just been a bit closer.

European golf has developed very quickly over the past twenty five years or so. They have as many or maybe more great players than we do.

The lack of interest this year was due, no doubt to the fact that the networks decided to broadcast the event in real time instead of delaying it. Not many people are going to get up at 2:30 in the morning to watch an event no matter how great it is. By the time we got up and began watching, the results were known. In the past they would broadcast it as a tape delay and you knew not to read any newspapers or listen to the news. In fact, television news broadcasters would tell us if we wanted to watch the program, don't listen to their report. Too bad, but I have no doubt that it will be huge again when it comes to Hazeltine in 2016.

Yea, I agree. The way that Horschel performed the last four weeks of the season, how do you not pick him? I'm not to sure about Chris Kirk, but Russell Henley has done amazing things as a rookie and was one of the best match play players in the world as an amateur. That kid has no fear.

I think that too much emphasis is placed on experience. Mickelson was terrible this year and Patrick Reed was their best player. Web Simpson has always kind of left me cold. They like to talk about him as a major champion, but he really backed into his US Open title when Jim Furyk bogeyed two of the last three holes and Graham MacDonald shot 73 in the final round. I just can't seem to think of him as a major champion. He's ranked 33rd in the world and hadn't really been playing well. Why not take the player's that are hot. I always felt that that's what the captain's picks should be. Guys that haven't been the best over the past two years but are currently on fire. Webb Simpson and Hunter Mahan weren't those guys.

Reed wasn't a captain's pick by was Keegan Bradley and I think he was picked because Mickelson lobbied for him. The two have teamed up in the past.

Up until 1979 the USA competed against Great Britain and Ireland in the Ryder Cup. There wasn't much competition, as the USA easily won the cup most years, so Jack Nicklaus led an effort to expand the competition to include all of Europe so that players like Seve Ballesteros could play, which sounded like a good idea at the time, but doesn't look so good today (for the USA). Maybe we need to expand the USA Team now, since the Euros are doing a very good job of kicking our butts these days. We simply have no answer for Rory, Martin Kaymer, Justin Rose or Sergio, who have great attitudes in team competition. Our "stars" simply didn't cut it. For example, Bubba Watson was horrendous. He is so wild off the tee that Captain Watson only played him in the best ball matches (not alternate shot) and his teams were soundly defeated 5&4 and 3&2 on Friday and Saturday. Then in singles he was dismantled by Martin Kaymer 4&2. He was so bad he never even played holes 17 or 18 in the competition! Bubba had better stick to the Masters where there is no rough and his wild 320 yard drives are not penalized. Then to top it off, Phil Michelson insulted Tom Watson at the final press conference by complaining about Watson's tactics. Wow.

hindsight. the Coach picked players form pass results. There no guarantee they will preform beyond there game under pressure. the Europeans played exceptionally and made some unbelievable shots at critical times. our boys IMO missed to many putts event though they came within inches. With all sports that have coaching it's boils down to the player's making the plays. IMO after the lost I think coach carries to much of the blame form fans. Bottom line the players picked got out played.
