Default Research on pool contractors

I posted this on contractors but don't think that thread is well trafficked. So am posting here as well. Based on TOTV suggestions, I have requested proposals for building a new pool from T&D Concrete and Backyard Aquatics - Joyce Bowles. I am avoiding United and Sunshine Pools - again based on previous posts. I would like to get one or two more quotes. Any suggestions of other companies to build pools?

I think T & D are higher priced..and also the best. They built my pool and it has been problem free. I'd get other quotes so I could negotiate, but ultimately T&D would be my choice.

I saw a couple of backyard aquatics pools in my home tours. Very nice.

I can't vouch for the quality just the aesthetics's.

T&D Concrete (Florida Spa & Pool) did our pool. The differences in quotes become insignificant when one considers one method VS another. T&D does the engineering required for each different pool. Their after the sale and after completion service is excellent.

We also use them to maintain our pool and it is excellent also. Good follow up.

And they are local.

Don't worry about Sunshine Pools...it seems they went out of business suddenly and left 20-30 homes in TV hanging high and dry. Dosen't surprise me after what we went through.

Having recently retired from the swimming pool industry, allow me to make a few suggestions.
The most important thing you can do is speak with customers of the company you are planning to use. Find out if they are completing each phase of the project on time and if they can be reached when you need a question answered. Ask about warranties on your pump and filter. Also, how long is the finish warranted. See if they will install a salt generator (makes chlorine) at no charge.
Unless you are planning on pavers for your deck, see if they will guarantee it not to crack.
Ask if they will also supply an automatic cleaner.(unless you are getting a valet system, which is a built in floor cleaning system) With a cleaner and salt generator you will not need to spend a hundred or so on pool service. Make sure they install an automatic way of lowering the pool level (it's just a pipe to waste installed at the right water level). If installing a screen around pool, see if they are going to use the new type that has rebar and cement filled uprights.
If I can be of any help, please ask

Petey,

Thank you for this information. My Petey is in TV without me. He has had several pool installers at our home for estimates. I am sure he will appreciate your expertise.

Thanks again,
Shirleevee

petey, what do you think of the fiberglass pools and are they as expensive and have other downsides compared with concrete?

Fiberglass pools look wonderful, for a while. Chemical balance is harder to maintain and the finish tends to look faded after a few years. I personally would never get one. They are less expensive but you do get what you pay for.

Petey; what is your opinion on salt water pools vs chlorine pools?

Do you mean pools that use salt water or pools that generate chlorine by putting salt in the water? If you mean the ones that make chlorine, I think they are great. The only drawback that no one speaks about is the cell that is used only lasts 3-5 years. Then it can cost up to $600 to replace.

Donna,

We are getting estimates for pools.........I just arrived here (TV) and the only plans I received (husband got more here in TV), were from www.thepoolbuilders.com
My husband described what we were interested in, and I must say he did a great design. I did a BBB check and found no complaints. Good Luck!......

Donna,

Salt, inground ......sorry for being so brief. Getting here today was stressful...airplane delays, crowded airport, lines at car rental..........Oh, but it was worth it.hahahaha. Let me know is you find any other pool people.
