![]() Shattered Consensus by James Piereson In Shattered Consensus: Decline of America's Postwar Political Order the author argues America has undergone three historic earthquakes: the Jefferson revolution which ushered in a long period of dominance of a new anti-Feeralist party; the Civil War which vanquished slavery and set off the ascendancy of the northern Republicanism; and the New Deal which dramatically expanded the size and intrusiveness of the federal government in American lives. In each the old order fell and a new one emerged. The author views Obama's presidency as the beginning of the collapse of the 80 year consensus forged in the post World War II. That consensus assigned the national government responsibility for maintaining full employment, policing the world's interest in democracy, trade and national security. The collapse of this consensus began to disintegrate in the 1960's & 70's with Vietnam protests, students movements to the left, discarding traditional. moral and social values by reigning Democrats ........... Leading to the question: how will the contemporary left resolve the original progressive contradiction which persists today? Affecting to be tribunes of the people and advocates for democracy in practice so called progressives demonstrate a dismissive impatience with democracy in favor of rule by the diktats of our benevolent betters namely them Succintly stated hippies of the 60's begot hippies of succeeding generation and those generation are strategically placed in our schools and our government and creating a revolution moving America from its traditions to the new normal. What do you think? Personal Best Regards: |

Even if placed throughout today, they are still out numbered by "most Americans". The revolution that needs to occur is the calling out of the majority....mostly silent....less than 50% registered to vote....every day American (LEGAL citizens of the USA that could become registered voters). We have the numbers....but not the inspiration nor the motivation to stand and be counted. |

The anger expressed toward "progressives" should have been expressed in the voting booths. In a Democracy whoever gets the votes wins the election. The Tea Party mentality seems to demonize all opposition like the Communists in China do. Candidates must espouse ideology that gets votes from all demographics to "win". Not just the party members who are true believers.IMO.

They get votes from the demographic they choose to highlight. How about the votes they do not and may very well have not gotten from the demographic that comprises eligible but not registered voters? As an aside but related because "tea party" was used above; I am a little tired of the hyocitic nature of many posters here. For example if I used a term from the past to label a gay person as "queer", there would be a pouncing of magnitude upon me. Well the way some use "tea party" is no different. |

The progressives utilize Alinsky's demonizing and marginalizing as a method to blunt debate. The Tea Party Fox News, Republican Party, U S Constitution speak the truth but they can't handle the truth.
The Tea Party is a bunch of wingnuts. Fox News is not real news . Republican Party of no, spoilers who stand in the way of progress. U S Constitution is a living document and can and must be altered. Progressives also point to false political choices. And your not going to have a rational political debate because as James Piereson said they rule by diktats of their benevolent betters, namely themselves. How does one deal with circular thinking? Look at other labels they use "black lives matter" How about "lives matter both born and unborn" "white privilege" How about white strong work ethic that took first and second generations of European immigrants who rose from poverty because their parents insisted on self reliance , education and responsibility for their acts. How about "No Justice No Peace" followed by riots in cities governed by black progressives. Charleston was a breath of fresh air. Obama went out of his way to honor Bergdahl, Brown, Martin Gray, etc but a young 27 white female gunned down by an illegal never even gets a mention and worse yet Obama can't even be shamed into responding. Its called racism and its called hypocrisy The liberal news media is complicit in keeping an open honest and objective national conversation . And why is it you suppose that news media in China and Russia and many Latin American countries are all state owned and controlled America's next revolution is not going to turn out very well if citizens don't speak up and speak out. Perhaps Trump is over the top but given the Alinsky tactics being employed full force by progressives it may be the only way to pry open an true national conversation Personal Best Regards: |

President Santorum will get the country back to an even keel. No more abortions, no more liberal courts, and government backed religious Christian education for our grandkids. That is what we need to get back on the right path.

Why is it that the right wingers so love to use Alinksy in their posts? Has not the right wing just as often used exactly those tactics? Personalize the issues, keep up the pressure etc. How many Benghazi investigations so far? Found that birth certificate in Kenya yet?

Most, if not an overwhelmingly large percentage of politicians and political science students read his works, Difference we have a President who actually TAUGHT his methods and is considered an expert. And we have a presidential candidate, Ms Clinton, who wrote her senior thesis on Alinsky, and then subsequently had that thesis sealed and it still is. In addition, she had quite a lengthy correspondence with him. "David Alinsky, the son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky wrote in a letter: “I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday."" Obamanism and Alinskynism - Blogs - Jerusalem Post "But what happens when Machiavelli’s Prince reads and employs “Rules for Radicals”? In 2009 President Obama’s friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett was asked on CNN about media bias, particularly at Fox News, and she responded: “What the administration has said very clearly is that we’re going to speak truth to power.” I remember thinking: “Wait a minute, you’re the White House. You are the power.” The Alinsky Way of Governing - WSJ |

Always parrot back what they want the post they read to sound like, then critcize their interprtation thereof, always veer off any subject they are not allowed to discuss, always call the opposition names to hopefully inflame the rhetoric, and always a disgrace to the party the like to claim to be supporting. In summarry the usual useless non value added antagonizing BS in the name of who ever they pretend to represent! |

As to the term " right winger" another fact escapes you. Progressives have pulled so far to the left that a centrist like me does look like a right winger to them. Please for the sake of your children and mine and for the sake of every American citizen please stop emoting and begin analyzing and you may find that you will come to some very different conclusions. For example Iran is not our friend. Or Bernie Sanders fan base are young idealist kids and left over hippies from the 1960's both of whom are completely out of step. Personal Best Regards: |

Saul Alinsky is a famous, or infamous person who anyone who studied political science or is in politics is aware of or has read. IF there is an obsession about Alinsky, do you not think it lays at the feet of a man who studied him, and then became such a fan and so proficient in the tactics that he TAUGHT his methods, AND followed his steps into the activistism arena as an organizer. Obamanism and Alinskynism - Blogs - Jerusalem Post The Alinsky Way of Governing - WSJ THAT would be President Obama, and many of his staff and close aids like Valarie Jarret were with him while he was teaching the Alinsky tactics and in case you missed this from the first link from Alinsky's own son... "David Alinsky, the son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky wrote in a letter: “I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday." In addition, Ms Clinton wrote her thesis at Wellsley on Alinsky and corresponded with the man. If there is an obsession, would it not be there ? |
