I have recently purchased a Traeger Smoker and have been disappointed with my initial results, even though the Traeger web site posts many very positive reviews for this product.
I am anxious to talk to others in The Villages who have cooked successfully with smokers, hoping to learn why my results have been disappointing. I noted that one member had posted his Traeger on the classifieds in May. Can anyone give me any feed-back on this subject? Thanks. ALANANN |

Welcome to TOTV.
Currently, there is a series running on PBS called BBQ with Franklin. Aaron Franklin can be a little silly at times, but you can learn from him. |

Need more information. I am assuming your traeger is a pellet type. What are your problems, what are you trying to smoke. Traeger has a very good reputation.
I personally use a akorn kamado type smoker/grill and love it. Having pulled pork and a smoked meatloaf this holiday weekend. |

I use a Big Green Egg, its unbelievably great--most important is temp control- And , if you're looking you ain't cooking---youtube is your friend ---use it---I use lump charcoal + wood chunks--smoke only counts in the first 30 minutes
Good Luck |

Smoker cooking is an all day process. My favorite 3 meals are 1. Prime rib 5 lb rib flavored with Montreal Steak Rub Set smoker on low setting 3 hours spraying with apple cider to keep rib moist every 45 mins or so. Then set smoker on medium keep spraying till the internal temp reaches 145 to 150 degrees 2. Pulled Pork I use a 5 lb pork loin cover loin with your favorite barbecue rub, smoke on low for 3 hours. Then turn smoker on medium and smoke till internal temp reaches 185 degrees. Remove from smoker place in baking pan. add 2 cans vegetable or beef broth sliced onions and peppers Cover pan tightly with foil bake at 325 to 350 for 3 hours Remove from pan the pork will fall apart Place in bowl ,Shred pork and add vegetables and barbecue sauce mix mix mix 3. Beef Brisket rub Montreal over Brisket Same smoking directions as pulled pork. I take 1 or 2 cans beef broth in sauce pan add garlic and bay leaves, few pepper corns and whole cloves bring to a boil let simmer 10 to 15 mins.Strain broth over Brisket Cover with foil tightly bake for 2 hours just enough so it's tender not falling apart Remove let rest good luck

I've had a traeger for three years and find it meets all of it's claims. It is a terrific grill and the meats are always moist and tender. The one thing it does not do is burn or braze meat from a direct flame. It is indirect cooking at it's best,

I have made a smoked turkey in my smoker, don't know what brand it is. It took all day and much attention but it was delicious.
