This past week the local rag had articles indicating that each golf course in the Villages, Championship and Executive, would be collecting contributions for scholarships for children of Patriots fighting for this country. I played golf on Friday and again on Sunday and never once noticed a collection container or was asked by the starter for a contribution to this wonderful cause. Did I just play the wrong courses? Or, was it just too much trouble for the Villages to participate?

I played Truman on Sat and El Diablo on Sunday...both had collection tins; the starter at Truman reminded all golfers of the special event.

Congratulations on picking the right courses to play. We played Pimlico on Friday and Pelican on Sunday and no collecton containers were there.

During the televised PGA playoffs from Boston, the network ran a special report about Patriots for Golf Day, taking place this holiday weekend. I wish I could remember all the facts, but I was really impressed with the % of money that is actually given to the charity. $0.96 of every dollar is given for scholarships for children of our service personnel who have lost their lives, in service to their country. Children of veterans, who are severely disabled in action, are also included. The original organizer is a country club pro who is a air national guard member, who has flown 2 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently serving tour #3.
This year there were 3000 golf clubs signed up to participate. Next year, he is hoping four 4000. Maybe we can get the entire Villages courses to participate next year.

All village courses participated and there were notices at check in counters. Pretty obvious to my group.

What a great cause - my husband told me about it and then I saw the young man's commercial about it. It was really clever - he said "you cannot mow your grass this weekend, your country needs you on the golf course" or something like that. Thanks to all that participated.

I played on Saturday and Sunday and asked at both courses (Hilltop and De La Vista). I had early tee times and was the first to ask about it on both days as I wanted to donate each day- the starters both thanked me for reminding them and then put out the containers. I think it was just one of those things that people needed a little reminder- not something they do in the normal course of a day.

I don't think the Patriots need a collection. Yes the super bowl loss really hurt but we'll get over it without busting our budget. If hurricane Hannah stays away we should have a good win over KC this Sunday.

Sorry cliff but all championship courses had posted signs indicating the dates at the check in counters. Even saw a sign in the men's room by the towel dispenser.

Sorry RIwannabe. If I give a negative tone, that is probably because I have a negative feeling on the matter. There are a whole lot of things here in TV that people could be angry about. I played golf for two days at two different courses and no attempt was made to make a collection for the military families as advertised in the paper. Should I have a positive tone about that? It does appear that a lot of the courses did manage to participate in the collection, but, the ones I played did not. I was not able to make a determination of which courses did or did not participate when I wrote the first post on this thread. I am very glad to see that not all courses were nonparticipants like Pelican and Pimlico were. But, I do not need sarcasm about my posting. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Especially for nonresidents. Have a nice day (Air Force?) from a Navy retiree.

Cliff, maybe you needed to remind the starters at these courses about the collection? It seemed to make a difference when Colleen mentioned it. It does sound like TV could have organized this a little better but it sounds like the effort was in fact made and the problem was with the humans working the courses.
However, since it was important to you, why didn't you speak up? BTW -- I'm sure the organization handlng this would be happy to accept a check from you even at this late date.
