Voting is underway. Many of us have already cast our ballot. It looks like record numbers of Americans will vote in this election.

The campaign has been long and very hard. Everyone will admit, I think, that there has been too much negative advertising, too many liberties taken with the truth, too much attacking of the opponents' character and qualifications and too little calm thorough debate of the issues facing the country. Much of the devisiveness of the campaign has spilled out into the American population. Even here in TOTV emotions have grown high at times.

At the end of the day on Novermber 4, one of the candidates will prevail and will win the election for the Presidency.

Now for an important question, the answer to which will speak volumes about how effectively our country will extricate itself from current woes...

Will Americans put aside their partisan feelings and support our new President, whoever he is?

Said another way, using words that we all have repeated since childhood. Will America be one nation indivisible... or will the partisan wrangling which has separated us and has been so unproductive for so long continue?

Suppose McCain were to win. Do you honestly think that Obama supporters would give him any more deference than they have given Bush for the last 8 years? I think that answers the question for that scenario, as unlikely as it looks at this point.

On the flip side, I think there will be a period of a honeymoon if Obama wins - at least from the majority of McCain supporters. However, expect to see that honeymoon come to screaming, acrimonious divorce should Obama team up with Reid and Pelosi and push a far-left agenda.

Now really, do you really think it was only Democrats going after Bush? Give me a break. short term memory loss of your candidate saying he isn't him or following his policies.

I do not think partisan politics will go away, regardless who gets elected.
It is so deeply instilled and practiced the 545 in DC there is no hope. The likes of Nancy Pelosi in a leadership position or not is the role model...she espouses the fact if it is from the opposition she is against it.
This forum has it's followers as well (both parties). How many times has there been an appeal to not use partisan positioning to answer a question. Conclusion: it is not possible.

It is going to take some catastrophic event of significant consequence...unfortunately...to bring this nation back together.

The only other hope...low probability of occurrence based on past practice....the reawakening of we the people changing from the silent majority to one of pro actively pursuing government....rising to the mode of we are sick and tired of it and not going to take it anymore. I remain pessimistic.

My thought is that if McCain gets in there will be a terrible backlash from all directions. Those folks haven't gotten over the 2000 election yet so this will only add fuel to the fire. If Obama gets in, he will be closely scrutinized by the only balanced network available and rightfully so since there will more than likely be a full democrat congress at that point. I think this provides an obvious answer and indicates why it is very unlikely Kahuna. I for one plan on lending scrutiny AND support to who ever wins as far as I can, because we really need to at some point begin to move away from all of this petty, shallow, immature, blind , unintelligent,blanket party rhetoric that really only serves the ego of those that espouse it. I would much prefer we come together and learn that intelligent examination of the isuues with appropriate compromise offers us our best chance to move foward.
