Apparently, some paths are being closed for short or long term?
MONEY, MONEY IT IS ALWAYS MONEY. This place was formed and was famous for the golf cart paths, the walking areas etc. Long time ago, a person seldom saw a car. Many folks including us came here specifically to avoid the auto mess, the accidents, the long lites at signals. NOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, MONEY MONEY MONEY. The car dealers are jumping with joy, the place is spreading to be another LA or Chicago with cars cars cars, the American way of pollution and sales work. How nice it would be to have only a golf car and a bicycle and to walk to shopping? How about the extreme,,,,,,,,,,,,, a monorail. So, back to money, the Village Carts put in a gas pump, whoopee, sell cars to burn gas. Check this: For one pound of fuel, it takes 14 pounds of air for 15 lbs. of CO Co2, NOx, H2O and a lot of unburned hydrocarbons. Village Carts now really tries to play down electric carts, sell gas so how soon will we get auto gas pumps to spread the pollution and the WEALTH???? |

I believe one of the cart paths that run behind and thru the village of hacienda hills golf course area will be closed for repairs. Some of the cart trail is uneven and quite bumpy and is in need of repair. I don't know about other cart paths being closed.

The paths are beng close for maintenance and some for replacement of uneven concrete.
New Gas Golf carts probably pollute more than new cars . The villages in about 12 miles across and growing. most of use not going to walk or ride bike from one end to the other. You are right! It's always about money and whose hand ifs flowing to. |

![]() For most of us, having only a golf cart and a bicycle would be very limiting. Perhaps in the "old days" when The Villages was young, this would have been possible, but not now.

Not sure what your real problem is with gasoline carts. Many use their carts all over the Villages and need to be able to take their cart without worrying about how much of a charge is left. As for pollution, presenting figures with stats would be more helpful.
The Villages Golf Cart stores has set up gas stations for carts....hooray. They have gasoline that is formulated for gas cart engines. It's a bit more expensive, but it is better for my gas cart, is closer than a long ride to get petrol at one of the automobile stations and doesn't break my budget. A gas cart only holds a limited amount of fuel, but I can get about 200 miles per fill-up. Yes, there are lots of cars....some of the drivers are residents, some are not. Remember, sometimes people need to get to places other than The Villages, might need to bring items too bulky for their cart from one place to another, and we do have storms with rain and lightning. Golf carts are not a safe place to shelter during electrical storms....AND, air conditioning in the car may be necessary for some. Times change, things change, there is no stopping this. Sometimes we like the changes, sometimes we don't. |

Is the OP ranting about the use of fossil fuels, the size of The Villages, cars, or something I am completely missing? Here is a thought just for discussion.... It doesn't really matter how big The Villages is or becomes because on a day-to-day basis it does not matter. We are all going to live within a few mile radius of our homes. We are going to shop at the stores nearest to our homes. Same with Resturants. An exception might be medical or dental.
I will use us as examples. We live near the Savannah Center. We will do most of our shopping either around Spanish Springs or Southern Trace. Entrainment/dining will be in Lake Sumter or Spanish Springs, with occasional trips to Cane Garden or Mallory CCs. We can reach any place we want to go in an electric cart if we choose. (We have one of each so don't start....) If we want to go to Brownwood, we will take the car. But again, there is no real reason for us to go to Brownwood. I am not saying anything bad about Brownwood, it is just not on our "daily" radar. This would be the same as a family living in the southern part of The Villages. They probably would not travel to Spanish Springs other than for a special occasion. So to conclude my ramblings, Enjoy living in your little slice of The Villages. Do worry about how big this place is becoming.
