To reply to second part of OP's post, why can not the gas golf cars have emmision controls? They stink in the tunnels. That is why we bought electric. (Plus I am a EE and Electric motors don't need much maintenance, no oil changes, tune ups, etc.)

I think the OP came in upset because his MMTrail was closed.

I use my car far less now then when I lived up north.
If you are talking about how much the gas carts contribute to air pollution, well I don't have exact numbers, but I would be confident saying that it's a drop in the ocean.

Except for golf courses around the world (which mostly use electric carts), we are the largest buyers of gas golf carts.

So, I read somewhere that there are something like 30,000 - 50,000 carts in TV, if we assume half are gas carts then maybe it's only a half drop in the ocean.

MONEY, MONEY IT IS ALWAYS MONEY.
This place was formed and was famous for the golf cart paths, the walking areas etc. Long time ago, a person seldom saw a car. Many folks including us came here specifically to avoid the auto mess, the accidents, the long lites at signals. NOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
MONEY MONEY MONEY. The car dealers are jumping with joy, the place is spreading to be another LA or Chicago with cars cars cars, the American way of pollution and sales work. How nice it would be to have only a golf car and a bicycle and to walk to shopping? How about the extreme,,,,,,,,,,,,, a monorail. So, back to money, the Village Carts put in a gas pump, whoopee, sell cars to burn gas. Check this: For one pound of fuel, it takes 14 pounds of air for 15 lbs. of CO Co2, NOx, H2O and a lot of unburned hydrocarbons. Village Carts now really tries to play down electric carts, sell gas so how soon will we get auto gas pumps to spread the pollution and the WEALTH????
How was that herb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice rant even if it doesn't make a point. Perhaps this place was not designed to be perfect for all people and the disgruntled are still free to depart whenever they want.

So----outside of the carts, how do you like living here? I looked at a lot of places before retiring to The Villages, and except for a few grouches and seat-savers, I believe it's great.

My gas golf cart gets over 50 MPG, has one cylinder, is about 361 CC and folks are worried about it polluting the atmosphere??? They should follow a semi done the interstate sometime. I seriously doubt that changing anything in our little community at TV will really have any effect on the world's pollution. IMHO

The maintenance on gas carts is minimal. It is about 30 minutes a year to change the oil, spark plug, air filter, and lube the clutch. I suspect the time is equivalent to checking the batteries and adding water monthly with electrics. Plus on electrics you are replacing the battery pack every few years.

I wonder how much pollution a coal fired power plant adds to the atmosphere just to charge your batteries over night not to mention your house lights tv air conditioner and so forth. Just a thought

We are still hoping for clarification from bbbbbb.

it's amazing how many long winded answers there are to this unintelligible post.

You don't like it, don't do it. You like it, do it. I prefer to rent a gas golf cart because I don't want to be dealing with distilled water in batteries while I'm in The Villages and not Ohio.

I find just about everything in The Villages to be delightful, so I enjoy the hell out of our 4 to 6 months there in the home we own. I'm not crazy about medical episode drivers possibly killing me on the multimodal path, but everything in life has its risks/rewards ratio. I can live with The Villages' r/r ration. Happily.

Best of all, we're not in our Ohio home to be pelted with snow and below-zero temperatures in the winter.

I guess you didn't read the probably did you. I can come to any conclusion I want.

One factor might be no pollution control on golf carts especially carburetor carts due to inefficiency. Lawn mower engines by design are not too fuel efficient. And yes golf cart engines are glorified lawn mower engines.

Posts most always go in different directions no matter what the topic was. That why you get so many responses. Posters disagreeing. Some say arguing, verbal fighting, and bulling. If it wasn't for that there would be few posters
