I already have the Linksys software on my laptop since I was using it with DSL in NY. When I got here, I tried configuring the Internet connection and picked auto DCHP in the first box. This is usually the type of connection which is usually used by cable companies. But cannot get an internet connection thru the router hooked up to the modem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Unplug the router. After a few seconds, plug it back in. Press and hold the router reset switch on the back for a few seconds.
If that doesn't work, do the same procedure with the comcast modem. Good luck! |

Comcast support should be able to help you. You are paying for their help desk.

We were using Linksys and Comcast up North with no problem. We left the setup up North "AS IS" and bought another Linksys upon arriving here last Dec and have been unable to succeed in connecting. Did everything possible and to no avail.
I figured that it may be possible to succeed with another brand router and we bought a Belkin and IT WORKED!!! Don't quite understand the logic of it all as we had uninstalled the Linksys we used up North when we bought the same brand here in TV that didn't work. Good luck.....

Suggestions:
1. I purchased a new cable to connect the modem to the router. I was having problems with the cable provided by Comcast. 2. Contact Comcast to advise them about the problems you are having and ask them to recycle the modem connection. 3. After the modem is fully operational, connect the router to the modem and wait for it to be fully initialized. 4. Try the internet connection from the laptop. It may take several tries before it makes the connection. 5. Here are some of my settings: Basic Setup: Automatic DHCP Basic Wireless Settings Wireless Network mode: Mixed Wireless channel: 11-2.462 GHz Wireless SSID: Enable Wireless Security Security mode: WPA Personal WPA Algorithm: TKIP WPA shared key: create a key |

I also got my linksys to work with comcast. However it was a challenge. Than I tried to use a second laptop and could not make that one work. Put the Belkin back and it worked fine on both. Have not givin up yet as the linksys is more secure. Will try again on my next trip down. So if anyone comes up with more pearls of wisdom, lots of people interested.

After many tries, I went to my account on the Linksys website to their FAQ on how to hook up to a cable modem.
Setting up the router: Step 1: select auto DCHP and save settings. Step 2: Enable MAC Cloning and select "Clone My Router" and select save settings. Step 3: Power cycle the cable modem, router and computer. Turn off the power and then apply power first to the modem, then the router, then the computer. This synchronizes the router with the modem. Apparently most cable companies require MAC cloning and it does seem to work. Well, whatever, we're up and running on the internet. I don't think I'll be turning the router off anytime soon. . . . . . just in case. ![]() -Dave- |

Do you have a MAC or Windows computer, or was this just a required setting?

We have a linksys router working with comcast and we found the most efficient way to get it working was to call the comcast tech help line. they had it operating within minutes. We were with comcast in atlanta and came here with the router, thinking we could just plug it in and go. But found out we needed to call the tech line, they were very helpful.

HB, I am not sure if the Linksys is a wireless router or not but if it is first turn off the wireless and use a wire LAN connection to start. Get that to work first and then fo for the wireless. Let me know the model number of the unit and I will ask out guy at work that is killer on setting up home systems. I will see if he has had problems with the Comcast and Linksys set ups.
