Does any one know what our current options are (here in the Villages) to dispose of flourescent light bulbs since they contain mercury
my light bulb has gone bad and required replacement
I have saved money & energy but now what ????

Well, as these bulbs and the laws which apply to them exemplify the "hurry up and do something, we'll think about it later" tenor of the apocalyptic Green movement and their willing albeit bewildered accomplices in Washington, I'd recommend mailing or shipping old bulbs to your Congressperson. However, there's probably a law against it.

I figured why bother. I though I could get off my chest some of my disdain for gov't actions on global warming/climate change/greenie BS in general. Politicians of both parties have treated this issue shamelessly, kowtowing to the scaremongers with absolutely no regard to scientific study. Our children are being brainwashed in schools and more effectively in the "entertainment" industry to buy into all the Armageddon scenarios. They have as pessimistic attitude toward earth as Paul Ehrlich and his fellow scientists had in 1970 -- except none of their brilliant, well-informed, scientifically consensused predictions came to pass. Don't ya hate it when facts interfere with a good theory.

I also kinda figured you or one of you ilk would have a list of local recycling centers, likely with other emergency numbers next to the phone.

Just wondering -- since most of TV is in Sumter Co., our recycling center is 20 miles away. What do you think the "carbon footprint" of driving that 40 mile trip to dispose of a broken light bulb is?

The cynicism....

for one or two lightbulbs yes.
It isn't just the green effect, it is saving my hard earned $$$. How about collecting in your neighborhood and once every month or 2 when someone is going in that direction.... Naw just throw it in a landfill.

Muncie How many decades ago were you in a school to know firsthand what is taught? What are your sources?

You might check with Home Depot Or Lowe's because I thought they would recycle them for you. Couldn't hurt to ask.

I called around and FOUND a place here in The Villages that'll recycle your energy lightbulbs with the mercury in them - Home Depot store in Lady Lake on 441.

They have a bin inside the store, right as you enter, next to the Returns area.

If you can't get to the store you can order on-line from the Waste Management of The Villages, FL a CFL Recycling Kit for $16.95. It holds up to 13 - 13 watt CFLs. When full, seal and give to the people at your mail station or post office for return.

Wrap it up in news paper and put it in the trash, like everyone else.

I will do that when I am forced to buy those in a year or two when that is all that is available. I hate flourescent (sp) lights and hate that I am being forced to use them in the future
