Does anybody know if the streets and roads shared by golf carts and car are public or private?. Or can anybody tell me where I can call to find out? This is important for the adaptations of my golf cart. I’ll post more later.

The whole business around keeping the gates open to everyone as a result of the tornado in 07 and FEMA access would make it appear that the raods are all public. Apparently, a "gated community" which restricts access does not qualify for FEMA help. So now all of the gates are accessible to anyone.
If FEMA says they are public, who would argue? |

The roads and streets in TV were built with public funds. Because of this, they must remain open to the public. The gates are just a security measure for visitors to stop and have their license plates photographed.

Except for roads within a villa neighborhood, all of the roads are public. Golf carts that are not "street legal" are permitted on roads whose speed limits do not exceed 30 mph - street legal carts on roads that do not exceed 35 mph.

I'm not sure which information you are referring to...the public roads or golf cart use. You can verify the public roads with any of the 3 counties (Lake, Marion or Sumter) - the roads are turned over to the county when an area is complete. Since Villa roads do not meet certain requirements, these are retained by The Villages District. You can also verify this on the district web site www.districtgov.org
Golf cart laws are established by the State of Florida. The Villages provides multi-modal paths and tunnels along roads that are not golf cart accessible (Buena Vista, El Camino, Morse Blvd (south of CR466), which allows you to travel throughout the community safely in your golf cart. Just about all of the neighborhood streets share access - with connecting roads such as Belvedere Rd, Odell Circle, Morse Blvd (north of CR466), Bailey Trail, etc. having lanes specified for use by golf cars, bikers and walkers. There is a golf cart safety class provided for free by The Villages Homeowner's Assoc. that will give you all of the information you need and is highly recommended! |
