Hello all. We recently bought a new (pre owned) home and my wife has informed me that she wants pull outs in all of the bottom kitchen cabinets, both on the bottom and in the middle of the bottom base cabinets.
I have seen hundreds of these in The Villages during inspections. Could anyone kindly suggest who they perhaps have used and if they were pleased, (or not). We do not need pantry pull outs, as the pantry is a walk in....but we will need all the others ones done. My wife of over 37 years is usually easy to please and does not ask for much.....but I could tell this request did not seem open for discussion....any help would be appreciated. Respectfully, Frank

Frank, I had my husband install pull-outs on all of my lower cabinets as well. I have a Bougainvillea (the smallest of the designers) and have a very small kitchen. The upper, fixed half-shelf in the lower cabinets is a joke! Really, what on earth did they expect we could place there and not have to get on hands and knees to retrieve? We had the one wooden sliding shelf on the lower portion, but they were really thick and with the side spacers used for installation, wasted a lot of valuable space.
I went to Lowe’s and bought from their off-the-shelf line of sliding shelves. I have stock sized cabinets, so their sizes worked perfectly for me. The ones that I selected were a combo upper-and-lower sliding shelf, so only one installation was necessary for both shelves. They are a study, metal shelf with silent glides. After 6.5 years, they still work perfectly. The only one I couldn’t get at Lowe’s, I ordered online from Bed Bath and Beyond. That was for my skinny, 9-inch opening cabinet. They had a sheet pan and tray sliding shelf that fits perfectly and holds my sheet pans, cooling racks and several cutting boards. My husband installed them himself one Saturday. (He was still working at the time.) I spent less money and feel that I got better sliding shelves than the wooden ones I see advertised in the newspaper. I love, love, love them. Go with your wife on this one. She knows what she’s talking about! If you would like to see them to gauge whether you would want to go that route, PM me and on one of your trips up to The Villages, we can arrange for you to come by and see them.

This is a good idea. Take a look on line and you might find equipment that will work very nicely and you can put in.

Thank you all so far.....I lean heavily on doing things myself.....designed and built my own house up north, delivered all my own kids, etc.
I will look into all options. I appreciate all the kind help so far! Thank you! Frank

We called the company the installed the cabinets, Timberline, and had them do it Their label was on the inside of the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. They came out nice and work great except that they did not round the corners on the pull outs so if you happen to pull the pull-out while the door was not completely open it scratches he door. Also on one slide they used screws that were too short and the slide came loose pretty quickly. They did come back and fix it though. |

I priced them out at Lowes and found it should cost me about $800 to do them all....I need about 8 of them.
May need more if she decides on wanting them in bathrooms... The ones at Lowes look nice, and they do not seem to lose much interior room. We will definitely do this, buying them somewhere. My lovely wife has made this clear. As to the sharp edges on the pull outs typically found in The Villages, Amazon sells a drawer protector 10 pack for like $13.00. There are also some other options. I always see the insides of nice cabinet drawers damaged by pull outs. I wish they would protect them during installation. Thanks folks! I'll keep researching! Tons of little things I know I need to upgrade on the new house...exterior keypads for the garage doors, wireless doorbell for the screened in front porch, LED retrofits for the can lights, pull outs for the cabinets, etc,etc....and we have not even closed yet..... Frank

Wow the price has gone up. We had all of ours (about 9 plus our pantry) done for $425 about 8 years ago. That was an installed price.

I wonder if you'd inquire at the woodworking place here if one of the men there wouldn't do it and their cost would (might) be a bit less than the price you had quoted at Big Box. Just a thought......

Frank....on topic. That's a good project to keep the wife happy. Off topic...did you buy a house in The Villages or elsewhere?
