Default Fresh Market

Has anyone noticed how fatty the ground Chuck is now. Mixture looks more white than red. Just made a meatloaf and it was sitting in an inch of grease when done. It never did that before. In fact worried that the pan would go dry in the past. It is the ground chuck for $ 2.99 they have always sold. I have bought it for years. Something has changed. They have lost me.
I did write corporate with my observations.

Maybe just an one Tuesday mistake? A second chance might be in order.

I just got back from there 30 minutes ago, was going to get some but it looked white to me as well. Probably the 30% lean variety. Never saw that before either.

A friend of mine told me that she asked the butcher about the ground chuck. Apparently they're putting more fat in it, thus now it's 80% lean. Go to Sam's, same price but 90% lean.

Unfortunately, it has been my last several visits.

I read a while ago Fresh Market was being acquired by a private equity firm named Apollo Management. If you were a Harvard MBA newly in charge of the meat department, what would you order be done to the ground chuck to increase profits ? Lean meat is expensive. Tallow is not.

In this old cook's opinion, the BEST hamburgers fried or grilled come from this package. They are flavorful, juicy, (enough fat) and fulfill all of the things required of a great burger on a bun. ANGUS Burgers...these were purchased at Walmart. They aren't cheaper, they cost more than Ground Chuck.

Publix is my favorite grocery here, but I buy some things at Walmart too

. I just don't get Fresh Market. The lighting makes me feel that someone will soon ask for my drink order.

This post actually made me chuckle!! The lighting does give that impression.....LOL

We've not gotten in a habit of going to Fresh Market (maybe the expense of it). Been there looking for something specific and they didn't have it. Store is small-ish I guess for a lot of inventory. Do enjoy the deli sometimes and the meat display does look "inviting" but again...a bit pricey!

Publix is generally my "go to", except when it comes to fish. I find their selection sorely lacking and the prices ridiculously high ($12/lb for Cod?). Fresh Market has a better seafood counter with variety at lower prices. That, the Dietz & Watson cold cut selection ( better and cheaper than Winn Dixie), and the beef and chicken kabobs in Thomas Sauce are worth the trip for me. I'm glad we have the alternative to shop there. Also looking forward to the opening of the Walmart Neighborhood Market across from Colony!

Now, if we could only get a good gourmet store.

I have gone to Fresh Market since I moved here. Since it was bought out many things have changed and I am not happy with them. They changed many suppliers - not for the better - and prices have gone up. I have really noticed this in the deli. I have put my comments in the "comment box" but I am sure it makes no difference. Publix will be getting more visits from me!!!
