Toilet paper, Kleenex and paper towels.
Organize your passports, jewellery, bank info and important papers in a knapsack so you can grab it if you leave.

Default Prepare for Irma

Make ice, or get blue ice packages & freeze them

Clean out freezer of any meat or other items that would rot if power is out for a long time, that you haven't used or is old.

Fill propane tank for gas grill

Fill car & golf cart with gas

Have some "cash" on hand

Be prepared to take in all porch furniture, potted plants, lawn ornaments, lanai furniture, etc & put in house or garage

When the storm get near, fill your bathtub with water. You might need it to flush the toilet. You can always fill pot, pitches and coolers with water. I've been in Florida since 1957. No need to panic.

Pick up anything that could be turned into a missile by high winds in your yard.

We were without power in NY for about five days during sandy.

We did not have a generator then and we do not have one now. OOPS one of those shoulda coulda mighta things.

Here we do not have a gas stove. Yet another shoulda coulda mighta.

As to water-if you do not know it your toilet is purely a mechanical device. You need about 2 gallons per flush so stock up PLENTY of water.

IF? You can still get them buy a coleman stove. Either the propane type or the gasoline type. I would NOT bring gasoline into your home-it is explosive. Buy instead the coleman fuel. Coleman fuel is naphtha-it is flamable but not explosive. If, you can't find the coleman fuel in the camping section. Look in paint supplies. You may well find it labeled NAPHTHA. A coleman latern-if you are not familiar with them, the gasoline type puts out as much light as a 100 w bulb-you can read by it. BE SURE YOU HAVE MANTLES FOR YOUR LANTERN. Obviously make sure it works. An extra generator is a good idea and if you've never changed one, it is not hard to do but read the instructions off the internet.

MATCHES.

For FOOD-get some canned soup. Make sure you have a manual can opener. If, you have a pocket knife with a can opener-be sure you know how to use it. Eggs-eggs will keep for several days without refrigeration. Salami and Jerky were invented long before refrigeration. Caned tuna-sardines. Caned milk. Powdered milk. Charcoal.

Based on our past experience first day or two is fun-after that-not so much.

Has there ever been an evacuation in The Villages due to a hurricane hitting FL?

Has anyone ever lost power and/or water for extended time in The Villages due to a hurricane hitting FL?

Please elaborate any hardships you have encountered in The Villages due to a hurricane hitting FL.
