My older brother said that this should be determined by a single statue by statue approach as some of these pieces of work having nothing to do with making African Americans feel bad about their past. They are about the soldiers who fought and died at times. Other statues look they are about getting in the face of the African Americans. He has traveled a lot in VA, NC, SC so knows more about what statues are where.

People want easy solutions too quickly. History is complicated.

Marion Barry seems like a very poor choice to me too.

YOU are correct in general.

This is a local issue and one that I do not think ever passes.

In every one of our states, there are statues or plagues honoring someone who one of us would not like.

To your comment on transformation......I think, and this is my opinion, if you exclude folks from the process as much as you can, they will then use whatever process they can to be recognized. THAT is what we have been doing for years and now are making it clear that exclusion is, in fact the goal.

As a loyal Republican, I now feel totally excluded from the party for which I worked hard, and understand those being excluded from the process in todays world. My exclusion from the GOP will never allow me to embrace them again.

I personally think much of this kind of obviously misplaced loyalty it because of exclusion from other facets of society

The MAJORITY is exercising it's capabilities...the NEW majority...the blacks and browns ARE the majority in those cities and they ARE exercising their "rights" as the majority. They are tearing down OUR history and replacing it with theirs. That's what happens when you get bred out and become the minority. MANY of our cities are a minority majority. And they ARE being changed. The majority get their way and their way...sucks. Their way is being run by people like Marion Barry...Jesse Jackson...some of the congressional idiots they elect.

Sanctuary cities ARE sanctuary cities BECAUSE they are already a high percentage of hispanics. Hispanics voted to bring in more hispanics...what did you expect? Hispanics are already the majority below the age of 7 and they will be the majority...51% of the population of AMERICA in 30 years.

What is going to happen is...cities that are 80% minority will elect ALL minorities to represent THEM...and the cities will continue their decline. Most...all...the cities with a minority majority and minority leadership are broke. Instead of fixing the problem...themselves and their people...they'll go after statues and change the name of buildings...because all their problems are...our fault.

DC is a sh*t hole -- what do you expect? If it weren't 'the nation's capital' it would be Balitmore.

Discouraging as it may be, the heart of politics is Type 1 vs Type 2 laws. DC sucks on both counts, not to mention being simply corrupt and incompetent.
