Default Turnpike Construction-Airport Alternate Routes

We went to Orlando the other day and just as WVLG broadcast, the Turnpike was a mess around Claremont. Significant delays. We have to go to the airport this weekend and were mapping some alternate routes.

Can anyone suggest a good alternate route that by-passes the construction on the Florida Turnpike?

The suggested route was Rt 27 south from the turnpike to Rt 50 east back to the turnpike.
I did see a broadcast today and the traffic was moving right thru the accident site. Probably worse at different times of the day.

Thanks.....RT27 to 50 sounds good. I'm headed there on Sunday morning, it might be lighter than a weekday.

We recently went via 441 (stopped at JJ Finn's for their Blue Moon fish and chips) to 50 (Colonial) to Semoran. About 70 miles, 1 1/2 hours in light traffic. Would be longer if traffic was heaver.

I would think on a Sunday morning the turnpike through the construction would be fine.

The turnpike was a mess Tuesday but that was before they built the temporary north bound lane. Both south and north bound now are one lane with a 60 mph speed limit in the construction area, I believe the total distance is one mile.

Depending on time of day the delay may not be too bad and I would think that 27 traffic should be much better now also.

I went to the airport Monday and the northbound was delayed by hours. Came home Wednesday night about 9:30 pm and we had no delay. They are routing the northbound over to the southbound for about one mile. Off hours should be OK.

Went this morning. Southbound okay-Northbound backed up for miles. Coming back I got off about 10 miles East of Clermont and took Hwy 50 to Hwy 27 in Clermont. Very little traffic. When I got on 27 in Clermont I looked over at Turnpike and Southbound was at a stop.

Does anyone have any more anecdotes regarding how long it took them to make this trip (and what time of day it was)? We have to make 5 round trips over the next week and a half so I'm looking for any available information.

A neighbor recommended an alternative route to the one posted above. He suggested taking 441 to the Apopka area and then catch the 429 toll road down to the Florida Turnpike. According to Google, it's only about 5 miles further than using the turnpike the entire way but my recollection is that this is a very slow route due to stop lights through the various towns (although I wonder if the route around Mt Dora can be avoided by looping south below the lake on county road 448.) Any thoughts about either of these variations?

Might be 45 min to an hour from 441@429 to TV due to congestion and frequent traffic lights.

We went on 441 and 436 to Costco in Altamonte Springs last winter and it took about 1 hr 15 min.

I did my first round trip today. Southbound to Orlando was at about 3:30 PM. The sign on the turnpike indicated a 15 minute delay but it turned out to be more like 6 or 7 - not too bad. On the return trip about 5:30 - 6 PM I expected a lot more trouble since it was rush hour. Again the sign said 15 minute delays but I would say the delay was no more than a minute.

Based on today's experience, I plan to take the turnpike again for tomorrow's run to the airport.
