Default Gate Passes

Are gate passes keyed to individual houses? We have rented 2 additional houses and 4 golf carts. Unfortunately the total of 6 gate passes and 5 golf carts have all gotten mixed up. Do I need to worry about this? If so, is there an office that can straighten it out? Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone.

No, you can use any gate pass on any gate in the Villages.

Although the passes work at all gates, they are keyed to each residence. We just sold one house and purchased another and had to turn in the old gate passes and get new ones keyed to the new house. I would check with the CDD or community watch to see who to contact to determine which passes go to which house.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info.

This may be a dumb question, but why would they be keyed to individual residences

If it is true I assume it would be for logging reasons.

Default Gate Card

Also if you move to StoneCrest or Spruce Creek and don't turn in your gate card, they can "de-activate" it. At least that was the original intention of serializing and linking the cards to the Villages address.

And if you lose one. I lost one and had to turn the other one in when I got my new ones. And yes they did deactivate the old one.

The company I use to work for used the same system for accessing certain doors within the company. At one time I had an all access pass that allowed me entrance to every door within the company. The access can be changes on the computer to allow one to go into one door and not the other. I also worked with the company security people and was shown if someone tries to access a door that they are not allowed a press of a key will display their company badge photo on the screen.

The system has a ton of options and it all depends on which ones TV wants to employ.

We looked at many homes in TV with an outside realtor. He just pulled up to the gates, pushed the red button and the gate opened. This without saying a word. I asked how this was possible. He said the streets within TV are public roads and they're not allowed to refuse entry to anyone. The gate pass is a convenience. The gate opens a few seconds faster than pushing the button but the passes are not necessary.
I don't know how true this is, but I do know that we went all over TV looking at resale homes and were never challenged.

My experience is the same as Bluedog's. We house hunted all over without a gate pass. At the manned gates, we were normally greeted but waived right in. We are pretty non threatening looking however. I've heard there is a photo record made of cars entering gates (resident -non-resident??) but I don't know if that is a TV urban myth or not.

Tom and bluedog, your experiences are typical. Most of our streets are public and accessible without a gate pass. I am not sure if there is a photo record of resident but think there is.
The gates do little to deter general traffic but serve a very important means of traffic control. Most of the cart traffic is diverted inside the gates prior to crossing and the gates force turning traffic to stop. It does not give the cart the right of way but it does slow the turning traffic.
