Default Read the following article about future energy issues

there:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/f...son-warns.html

This issue which is just waiting to happen to the US....$100 per barrel oil means $-5 per gallon of gas....COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE OIL DEPENDENCE ISSUE AND IT'S DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES MAKE THE CURRENT ECONOMIC PROBLEMS, THE RECESSION AND HEALTH CARE REFORM PALE BY COMPARISON.

Remember all the talk about doing something? Drill? Wind farms....nuclear power...other alternative sources? Remember? These were all pooh poohed as they take 10 years to do. So when do we start?

Remember when the fecal matter hits the fan....gasoline $5 ++ per gallon....coming soon....heating goes up....groceries go up....travel costs increase AGAIN.....and when it happens...REMEMBER it takes 10 years to get the new initiatives to have an impact.

Insure 20,000,000.....is a joke by comparison to the ills to fall upon the entire 300,000,000 of us. Yes even here in TV bubble....we will not be immune. In fact we will be more affected as the needs per person for us elders is much more accute....and when it it interupted the resulting devastation will be much more immediate.

So what, when, where, by who????? Nothing happened in the last 40 years and I am sure there will be nothing done in the next 40 years....we don't have the money.

The irony? New jobs are embedded in exploiting all the energy opportunities.

What do you think?
What should we do in your opinion.
Needless to say the impact of the devastation will be party insensitive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not being facetious here.. $140/bbl oil meant $4/gal for gas back when the prices were at their worst. How can $100/bbl oil mean $5/gal?

[For what it's worth, my personal opinion is that we should be declaring a National Emergency regarding energy independence so that NIMBYs can't do things like hold up an offshore wind farm for DECADES - have a review and either approve it or deny it and GET ON WITH IT]

I could not agree with you more. We are going backwards rather than forwards in our search for energy and financial independence. We have built a new nuclear plant in decades, we have essentially stopped offshore drilling for oil and natural gas and new coal plants are very hard to find. The delay, especially the nuclear has been caused by a group of environmental fundamentalists and our legal system, allows them to endlessly delay needed construction needed for energy independence.

They have not only succeeded in stopping new power generation; they have made it impossible for the US to build much needed refineries and the desperately needed smart grids. They have shut down the source of much of our fruit and vegetable supply, the san joaquin valley, to ensure the survival of a species that no one knew existed until a few years ago- this critical species - the delta smelt, a two inch long minnow that provides no economic value to anyone. As a result, we will have to import vegetables from China (does shutting down US industry and sending the jobs to China sound familiar to anyone?) Approximately 40,000 productive farmers and workers are out of jobs and on welfare and we will further increase our balance of trade deficit.

Breaking free of the influence of the environmentalists will require that Congress give the executive branch authority to place nuclear plants, coal plants, refineries and the smart grid that cannot be overruled by the courts - a step I heartily dislike, but a necessary one. The administration needs wartime powers and be able to execute them without interference from the judicial branch, just as was done for the Manhattan project during WWII. This is constitutional, however Congress has never needed to invoke its authority to do this. During WWII, it was understood that the nation was at war and the executive branch needed to be free to conduct the war as necessary.

Lesser measures will not allow us to force the extremist environmental zealots to release their choke hold on the US economy and our future.

Default The generations that follow us will has the distiction of

living under the shadow of the wartime powers when they are finally invoked after the energy crisis spins out of control.

The Mad Maxx portrayal may be a bit far out, however, life will be significantly more miserable. Think about a US economy today with shortages worse than some of us lived through in the 70's. No gasoline! Translates into no food stuffs in the stores. Translates to _ _ _ _ _ (what ever your imagination chooses).

We have a generation coming along called baby boomers. What sad name will be affixed to our future family members?

Unless something changes, life as we know it today is the best the future will ever hold with only a downside to face.

Coming soon!
