like I normally would, however, the tv is on the masters in the family room....AND I watch it as I go from here to there and around and...without exception...each and every time I see the tv, Woods is on or somebody is talking about Woods this or Woods that. Based on statistical sampling that would suggest Woods coverage is the dominant play....not the guys who are consistently playing better golf today. THAT is not right.
The thread is appropriately named....Tiger is the story, some think...UNFORTUNATELY.

So the Tiger fans must be happy.....if he was on the first page of the leader board maybe the coverage would be warranted.....he was on page 3 or 4!!!!!

And that is how I feel about it. Where else would the also ran or running get that type coverage? NOWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reality is that any also or even out of the running big-name player would and does get this type of coverage after they've done something wrong and comes back. Maybe not as long as Tiger is getting it, but they certainly get it. Maybe if the media would let Tiger's private life be private, he might actually be playing better. Who knows?

Personally, I don't care one way or the other. But the reality is that Tiger playing again is big news. Whether he does well or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that he has made, does make and will make an impact on golf -- he generates more interest in the game and brings in more money for the game. I'm willing to bet there are very few, if any, pro golfers who are not grateful he is back.

As to aj's TW, I hope he does well (I probably won't know since I don't follow golf, sorry -- but I do know who he is).

I am disenchanted in Tiger Woods. I think that losing fans and money and possible custody of his kids and the respect of his wife made him alter his ways.....for the time being.... But I think that it won't last long. I think he was big time into sportcheating (to change the spelling of that verb.) Like most people who cheat, if they will, they always will.

I don't think he will play well with such evident public disfavor. He is the guy that can't stand imperfection or disapproval...ANYONE can read that in his face and demeanor when he messes up the slightest bit.

I really don't think he is sorry. I think he is sorry he got caught. Oh well. We will see. Time will tell. He isn't a member of my family, so it's really none of my business.

Hope someone else wins.

I believe as a golfer he is the best that I ever saw play. However as a man he is but a punk. What he did was disgraceful to his family. I mean he was hooking up with trash. Some were just professional girls and one or two were managers at 24/7 stores. I probably respect them more than Tiger.

This thread is supposed to be about Tom Watson who at 60 years old was tied for the lead most of the day and now is in second place behind an equal surprise with a 50 year old, Fred Couples leading after the end of round one. And then there is also Phil Mickelson who is tied for second after round one after a poor showing all year because of personal distractions. (lets see, I think he is the one who has been taking care of his family, wife and mother in law who have cancer?) I sure wish our awful media would focus on the real stories here and cover these three players with at least as much gusto and time as they give Tiger. I sure would love to see Tom, Fred or Phil win this year. Anyone of them deserve the honor. Tiger is news, but enough already, give the attention where it should be on the leaders of this tournament.

We have a pool at work with about a dozen guys in it for the masters.
One of my players is Mickelson. I am familiar with his story and also Couples.
Not too familiar with Toms story. I would gladly pick any of these over Tiger.

To be somewhat fair to the media. Phil WAS the story about a year ago when he took time off to be with his wife. His first tournament back was talked about on Golf Channel much the same way, albeit not as in depth, as Tiger.

But wouldn't it be great to see the original TW win this thing? I'm rooting for Watson but sadly when they re-lengthen the course today and it starts to firm up I doubt if he'll be in the conversation on Sunday. But maybe Fred?

History has had many majors where great scores are posted day one but unsustainable.

I agree with Russ_Boston on the course being tougher for Tom. He is in amazing shape, but he will have to be spot on around the greens.

As a fan I could not have hoped for a better leader board and IMO having Tiger on the board makes the story more compelling.

Another name I did not even notice yesterday was Lee Westwood. I do not know a lot about him but recollection says he is someone I could pull for on Sunday. If he is not, I am sure folks will tell me why . It is always fun to watch someone trying to win a major for the first time. Golf is unique in that it is slow enough you can almost see the pressure wear on players.

Nobody wins on day one.....

You are so right. Occupation has absolutely nothing to do with messing around with a married person, whether you are a man or a woman. It has to do with character. The same goes if you are the married one and cheating.

I'm for Tom Watson, Fred Couples or anyone else approaching senior citizen's age. I think Phil Mickelson is a golfer to be admired for standing by his family in their time of troubles. These type of golfers should be promoted more.
Before the story broke of Tiger’s adventures, I have an uncle who is 97 years old. He always said he didn't like Tiger/Eldrick as he didn’t conduct himself like a gentlemen on the golf course. Obviously, he didn't conduct himself like a gentleman off the golf course.
I hope his recent troubles have humbled him into turning his life around and treating his loved one's with more respect. Only time will tell.
Having been a sports fan for a long time, I hope he doesn't turn out to be another self absorbed celebrity jerk who thinks he is above living a moral lifestyle. I hope he is sincere as everyone's entitled to make a mistake in one's life and certainly, no one is perfect. There is something sad to see a person with so much talent that comes along every fifty years to experience a fall from grace.
Money is a big factor in this equation as it pertains to revenues of other golfers but money shouldn’t be an issue for him as he is almost a billionaire. I would like to think he should be forgiven until he proves that he not capable of any meaningful change.

Only GOD has the right to judge him at the end of his days.

Just my two cents worth and I'll probably have to give back a penny.

Oh Xavier. Not all of us can be sunny like you all the time. I do so wish he wouldn't have done all that stuff. It isn't good for anyone to have all that messing around going on. It just isn't good for anyone to act like that with so many people. It is hard not to be down on him.
