We shud be worrying about whether the environment will recover from this ordeal and not how much or little revenue BP makes.

I worry about all those other oil spills waiting to happen....Yipsters!...I'm surprised that the media hasn't jumped all over that question!....What's going on with all the other drilling rigs?

I am wondering if they are going to be successful in stopping the leak or is it going to flow until there is no longer any oil in that field. I also wonder how much of the sea creatures and wild life will still be there when this is all over.

The only positive side, if there is one, is that one does not need suntan lotion when going swimming in the Golf.

Even when and if BP can fix this - and I have my doubts - you can bet that the Gulf will suffer for many, many years.

I forsee there being absolutely no Gulf seafood before long. That puts I don't know how many fishermen out of business. Even if they convert their boats to some sort of tourist attraction, it isn't likely to be for fishing expeditions!

I am increasingly scared that another rig will explode or another well will spew forth all that gunk. I keep my fingers crossed, especially for any other mile-deep sites. Bah Humbug!

$16.8 billion: 2009 profit for BP, which has been in the news lately because of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. The 2009 profit was a drop from $21.7 billion in 2008.

$6.1 billion: First-quarter 2010 profit for BP, reported on April 27.

137 percent: Increase in first-quarter 2010 profit from the $2.6 billion profit reported for the first quarter of 2009.

Good for BP. Companies are suppose to make money. How many people do you suppose BP employs? How many automobiles have they kept running? How many homes have they heated? Typical Americans. We all want without any sacrifice. Has anyone said they broke the law? Do you think they purposely killed people or hurt the environment, which, by the way has a God given ability to replenish and renew itself. Have you ever thought about why they were drilling so far off-shore? How many politicians pockets got lined so a dead-man switch, which may have prevented such a large spill, isn't required by law by the US on offshore oil rigs? Now watch everybody, deserving or not, line up for a big handout from BP. What's in it for me?

As hard as it is to believe right now; oil is a natural product of nature. Eventually the Earth will absorb it back up and you'll never know there was this big a problem.

Does that make this any less awful? No; but nature always sorts itself out. There's more oil seeping out of fissures in the bottom of the oceans than from all man made siphons and you would hardley know it. We brought it to the surface and that's why it's impacting us.

We can help the clean up and need to, but eventually the oceans will clean itself up; the fish will travel their usual routes and we'll still be driving our cars; manufacturing our products and fabricating for our needs.
