Hi,
![]() I'm coming down in one week with my husband to look at homes in TV. I'm very interested to meet some artist and join in on any art groups while I'm there (Jun 7-14th). Let me know if anyone has any info on any art groups or meeting I can join. Needless to say, I'm very excited to visit for 1 week to hunt (hopefully) for a lot or perhaps a resale home. However, it appears that resales are about the same price. Comments welcomed! |

Jas,
We won't be there when you are in June, but will be moving within the year. What type of art are you referring to? I have done a little pencil drawing in the past, but at the present time my art work is in the form of glass. I make glass pendants and marbles. I have also made some glass articles that are what I call "dust collectors"; things that just sit around on a table and look cute.

Greg,
I do watercolor (I presently teach classes). Being an artist , I enjoy all art. Your glass art sounds nice. I'd love to see it when you come down. I am interested in finding an art group & eventually teach watercolor at the villages. FIRST, I need to find a home in TV. We are coming down in 1 week to look at all the options. Pat |

Here's a link to some of the art classes in The Villages: http://www.thevillagesartleague.org/...20Schedule.pdf
Be sure to check the Recreation Guide in the Thursday newspaper, in case some of the classes have changed dates or locations. I do know that the VAA AHA group (Artists Helping Artists) meets at Seabreeze on the 2nd Wednesday now, instead of the 3rd Wednesday at Mulberry. Hope this helps, Judy

Also a ceramic studio. I have attended art studio at both Colony Cottage and at the new Seabreeze recreation center. There is no fee and there is an artist in charge if you need direction. Usually the person in charge has a project, but you don't have to do it, you can work on your own picture. It is so nice to see what others are doing and have them critique your work. I also have taken two classes at the Lifelong Learning College. Each cost $85. They are for six weeks, three hour sessions. EXTREMELY GOOD. One was color pencil portraits and the other a general course taught by Frank Zambardi. (Both of my instructors were VERY talented) I know about several other art studios usually attended by about 30+ people. They are usually at the regional recreation centers (the larger ones) rather than the neighborhood recreation centers. There is a LOT of art talent here in TV. There is a LOT of musical talent here too. Don't miss the fine musical presentations at Church on the Square. (not religious) There is also a lot of dramatic talent here. I just can't get over how rich this art environment is here in The Villages. |

Gracie - I'll definitely check out the glass classes when we get moved. From what I've seen in all the literature and whatever I can read on-line, this seems to be what is called "fused" glass work. What I do is called "lampworking" or "flameworking". It involves using a torch and melting the glass right there in front of you. I'm open to other things though. BTW, my avitar is a glass turtle I made and I wear it all the time.

Getdul, your glass turtle is beautiful! I've wondered about it. When you get here, stop by any rec. center and pick up a weekly schedule of activities.
I'm excited for you that you are coming down. As an artist, I know you will love it here. There is so much talent here, as well as much opportunity for you to work in your medium (or any others you might want to explore). A comment about home prices. Although some are overpriced, you can find many good values on resales. First, remember to add the cost of the bond to the total price when comparing home prices. Also consider the costs of any add-ons you might want that may already be included with a resale. Third, consider that the asking price on a resale is negotiable, which is not the case with a new home in TV. Welcome and have a great trip down! |

Ooops, so much for my journalism skills. I meant that Getdul, being an artist, would love it here. However, that's not what I said. Please pardon my poor grammar.

Trudy,
This is one (only one) of the reasons that I'm attracted to TV. There are soooooooo many options. If there is not what you want-------create it? I hope to be able to teach. Also, I do creative matting for paintings. Both of these will be a nice extra income. |
